Hello all, I've always been a gearhead, and am finally pursuing my ambitions by learning the mechanic / welding / cnc machining trade :)
A little about myself... I'm unemployed right now, and I always have found myself daydreaming about cars to race in the stock 2wd class rally races offered here in California. However, I'd always jump from one car to another, never giving any one car a real chance to make it to the next step in the process.
That's not quite so anymore.
I came to realize that rallying is likely out of my reach anytime soon ($$$), so the thought of building a rallycar got shelved, and I've switched my daydreaming to what my possibilities are. Do I get a economical truck to do mild off-roading / motorcycle towing with? Do I get an old british sportscar like an MG or a Triumph to bomb the various countryside roads I've found through motorcycling? Do I get a station wagon or some other practical car and then of course hot rod it, paint it ugly brown or green and have a sleeper?
Well, I can combine ALL of those in a baja beetle! :D
I now have a realistic goal. It's even written down. 69-74, reasonably lifted, but adjustable, stock components, with a 2110 engine. I will probably end up spending way more than I initially plan to, but I'll end up with a long lasting and versatile bug :)
And... well... my job search is now in OVERDRIVE! I have something to set my sights on. :)
I'm looking forward to what lies ahead of me, and the endless days offroading, and likely meeting a whole lot of you guys. :) |

| Welcome to The Samba. Eventually you will spend a lot of money, but if you look at OKTR6R's post you can see how much fun you can have with the least amount of money spent. |

Haha. Thats the truth too.
You can totally tow a motorcycle with a baja. I use to just chain my 80 to my rear bumper and head off for some camping.
Baja's are fun because you can just add to them a little at a time and if you wreak one, well not much changed from year to year so everything will usually transfer over to another bug. Thats what i did...with out the wreaking. |
