Me and my Friends {dirt bikers} are going to do are annual ride for a fallen friend Richard Sainct. I've decided to take the buggy this time. I'm checking to see if any other baja bugs would like to join us.
We start in Truckee on Sat. and finish in the Black Rock Desert. {about 200 miles each way}
Then we head back out to Truckee on Sunday .
We all get rooms Sat. night at Bruno's in Gerloch Nev. , However you could also camp on the Plya. I will give more details if some show interest.
All must be street reg. and able to make 120 miles between fuel stops.
Oct. 10 & 11 09'[/b]

i would also like to know

ridge racer Fri Jul 31, 2009 5:35 pm

It's mostly off road. I would have to say 10% paved, 25% pine forest dirt roads, 40% desert fun, 25% high speed dirt roads.
I'll post the route next week once I recheck my maps. That way you can see the route for yourself.

looks like some really cool terrain. and did i read that right "dogskin mtn" theres got to be a good story behind that name. so do you go one way on sat then back on sun? do you camp? my baja has plates but I try not to drive it long distances on the highway.

ridge racer Sat Aug 01, 2009 8:14 am

Yes we go out Sat. & return Sun. We aren't camping this time, but you can and we will meet Sun. morning. We stay at Brunos they have many cheep rooms and a restaurant bar.
I also don't like to drive on the Hwy. My baja is geared way to low {4k @ 60mph}. I'd say that the paved road is no more than 25 miles and it would be broken up.

my girlfriend and I are making plans to join you. do you drive to trukee on sat a or do you spend the night? what time do you get under way? we are really looking forward to seeing some new country and meeting some new folks as well. thanks for the invite!

Cool,
It is a real nice ride, very scenic. Not anything difficult.
We may stay at a friends house in Truckee on Fri., still not sure. I will be trailering my buggy up. Let me know if you will need trailer storage?
I usually ride dirt bikes for this one, but I took the buggy out there in June and it was a nice change.
I'd really like to have a few cars go this time, My baja experience is still pretty fresh and I'd love to have one are more cars go on the run. Let your wife know that it's probably going to be about 15-20 bikes all guys ?, ages 32 & up, all of which are harmless and pleasant.
Hope to see you guys

I think we'll try to find a motel to spend the night in or around truckee. I flat tow my baja so no trailer but I'll have to park my HHR overnight. I've only been doing the baja thing for a year or so. this will be my longest off road run this far from home. Brunos looks like a great place we're going to get a room there. cant wait! notice your in the bay area we're going up to hollister on aug 15 and see if we cant get a group started. trips like yours are just what I'm looking forward to. new places with folks that want to show off their play areas.

ridge racer Tue Aug 04, 2009 8:42 am

We can't make Hollister Hills that weekend. But I've raced bikes for years and Hollister is a good play ground.
I love the idea of starting up some sort of Nor. Cal. thing. I have huge desert experience on bikes just not the buggy. {with age comes cage is so true.}
Parking you car is no trouble in Truckee at my friends house right of the 80.
And yes Brunos rocks!!!!
I'll get you my # soon so I can.

Might be down for this. I've driven my Thing out to the Playa several times and it's a bunch of fun.

I put up a link for my buggy pics in my profile.
check it!!

ridge racer Sun Aug 16, 2009 2:56 pm

Ok,
It's getting closer.
Here is the rest of the route. Keep in mind that this is a rough idea the rest of the whole route. Check out your Nevada Gazetteer for maps.
Out of border town we head back out to dirt and into Winnemucca Ranch Rd. south.
Then Range Land to the 445 to 446 Nixon.
Dump Rd. out past Jay Bird Mine up to Twin Buttes, Tenmile and stop at frog pond.
Black Rock Desert into Brunos at Gerach. That makes for a Sat. drive.
Sunday we go Godeys Gap to Smoke Creek. Once into the Reservation we'll make our way out at Sand Pass Siding. Go Past Double Check, down to Landing Strip, Fish Springs Rd. , Winnemucca Valley and back to Border Town & Truckee.
I hope that some of you are still in?
My car has been prepped and is ready to go!!
My passenger is a buddy from Vermont that is going to be laughin like a little school girl after this ride.
I did beat him up on a bike in the desert once and I think he's ready.
Any way I think that we can make this a fun ride for all.
See Ya

Brian M Sun Aug 16, 2009 4:05 pm

I likely will be able to go, we will see how things go getting closer to Oct.

Brian M Fri Aug 21, 2009 3:39 pm

Can we get address for a start and stop locations? Maybe a map of the route?

This was the best I could do using google maps, does this look correct?

google map

belchos Mon Aug 24, 2009 11:57 am

The Black Rock used to be one of the Last Great Places, a place to get away from people. Now it has become a "play area," and the Burning Man has just about finished it. The only time you can go out there now is in the dead of winter when the flatlanders know they can die out there, like that young guy and his family almost did over by Vya. Haven't seen too many dangerous storms in October, but it is the high desert, so who knows? :)

ridge racer Mon Aug 24, 2009 12:49 pm

Belcohs-you could always move the moon!
Brian,
I would have to re-map it out on google.
You may have got some of it right, But we won't be on the hwy. 385 at all.
From Border Town we go strait across thru the housing development out to trails.
You missed all the Winnemucca Rd. stuff.
I may play with the G. Map if I can find some time.
If not It will be my little secret. :?
