ridge racer Mon Sep 14, 2009 2:56 pm

Friday we will stay at The In At Truckee. (www.innattruckee.com).
Sat. we are in Bruno's in Gerlach.
I do have a few extra rooms reserved at Bruno's as they may be busy that weekend. If you guy's let me know I will keep those extra rooms.

belchos wrote: The Black Rock used to be one of the Last Great Places, a place to get away from people. Now it has become a "play area," and the Burning Man has just about finished it. The only time you can go out there now is in the dead of winter when the flatlanders know they can die out there, like that young guy and his family almost did over by Vya. Haven't seen too many dangerous storms in October, but it is the high desert, so who knows? :)

BurningMan has only ruined it for one week out of the year. It's a really big desert, and there's 51 other weeks you can play out there.

Unless you mean by "finished it" that people know of it? I started going out there with BurningMan over 10 years ago, then quit going to BM, but didn't quit going to Black Rock. There's typically about 3-4 thousand people out on the 4th of July - a mix of off-roaders, land-speed record guys, and burners.

ridge racer Tue Sep 15, 2009 1:03 pm

I too have gone to BM many times before.
This time of year all we have ran into is hunters & land speed guys.

On this run we will only be their in time for a fly thru the lake bed. We will get to frog pond just before dark.
so unless you are planing to camp you may not drive all the playa.

had a seccessful shake down run on tues. did about 80 mi on the kaiser loop. Ill post some pics once I get a chance to resize them. Really looking forward to this trip. have reservations at brunos for sat. we will be spending the nite in trukee on fri. any recomendations? something cheap and clean (girlfriend insists!) hey sam_w or Brian M are you guys going? this sounds like its going to be a fun trip. cant wait to see some new places!

sam_w Thu Sep 17, 2009 2:08 am

Brian and I are going, we have reservations at The In At Truckee. (www.innattruckee.com). We are having one of Rich's block of rooms on Sat. in Bruno's in Gerlach.
The Inn at Truckee is not cheap but we are sharing a room.
Brian will stay over Sunday in Reno/Tahoe , I will be driving back to the Bay Area.
I went to Phoenix and back last weekend (1680 miles) to pick up the off road tyres and wheels that I bought on thesamba and to go to Jerome Jamboree.

I put on my new wheels and tyres, and lo and behold the off-set was wrong. So to go off-roading I have removed the rear fenders.
You can see how much bigger in diameter the new tyres are.
When I am back from Black Rock Desert I will put back on the road tyres and the rear fenders.

ridge racer Thu Sep 17, 2009 12:16 pm

It's a bummer that The Inn is not cheep. I haven't booked that friday night yet, as I have many different options to stay at on friday. None the less if I stay elsewhere I'll come over to the Inn and see you guys on friday night.
Guy's give me a final head count if you can that way I can let Bruno Know how many to expect for dinner.

see you soon

I keep going back and forth on this trip. I'm coaching my two sons' soccer games every Saturday this fall (including the 10th) but could give it over to the assistant coaches.

Last night, I spent two hours cleaning the car from my last trip to Black Rock (yes, yes, I went to Burningman this year. I won't let it happen again.) I'm reminded of just how tenatious that stuff is - the car still doesn't look clean!

Anyway, if I go, I'll probably stay with my cousin over in Grass Valley and meet you guys on Saturday morning.

Sorry for the waffle.

sam_w Thu Sep 17, 2009 7:17 pm

Ian, If you make it that will be great, buyt I am sure that we all will have a great time. I have been told to be prepared for a very variable set of weather conditions, so I will have the hardtop on and maybe try to get my windows in!

mtnroads Thu Sep 17, 2009 8:32 pm

sam like the new wheels, looks cool. hows the gearing with the tall tires? we have reservations at the inn so well see you guys there. no heater in my car so we will be bringing warm stuff. what kind of high temps might we expect? pax

ridge racer Fri Sep 18, 2009 8:01 am

The weather can be cold in the morning and hot in the afternoon.
Figure that we are going to leave sat at 7:am so it may be wet and chilly. By the time we get down to sea level it could get hot.
My car has only a front windscreen and no other windows. And I don't have wipers if it rains I have to stop and let the rain pass. That happened the last time out their in March.
Sam I'm not sure that you need to have your top and windows on. Keep in mind that the bikes don't have any protection. We will have to wait to check the weather as we get closer.
Ian I hope that you can make it, But as a father myself I understand.
I look forward to meeting all of you and getting us all lost in the desert. :D

sam_w Fri Sep 18, 2009 8:33 am

I went to the BLTNVW meet last night.

Geoff Kolb, will be coming as a passenger for me or Brian.

Ian really wants to come and he knows that today/Friday is the time to let you know about rooms in Gerlach

It will be great to get together again with the Tollhouse gang, as we did at Hollister Hills.

Can we get a guess at the number of cars/bikes?
Can you give us a description of the route.
I have a 10 gallon tank + a 3 gallon auxilliary tank, should I bring my 5 gallon Jerry can?

ridge racer Fri Sep 18, 2009 10:05 am

I think that we have 14 bikes and my car, sams, brians, pax's, ian is on the fence.
Thats it for now
Pax did you just build your car?

mtnroads Fri Sep 18, 2009 7:24 pm

Ive had my baja for about a year and a half. $600 craigslist find less engine and a lot of little things. its my first baja but ive had buggies, broke last one in half at Occitillo (torsion tube fell out!). been trying to only fix what breaks but its hard to resist the urge to modify! ridge racer saw your pics nice car. Looking forward to getting a closer look at it. geoff good to here your comming along, but last tine you hitched a ride didnt you get some inverted time?

jeff.k58 Fri Sep 18, 2009 8:28 pm

Hey Pax!
Sure did, but we were pretty snug in that sandrail thankfully. It looks like I'll be able to go but will know better in a week to ten days. It will be good to see you.
Jeff

Ian Epperson Mon Sep 21, 2009 10:55 am

OK, I'm in!

This will be my first offroad trip, so please bear with me.

Did the Bruno's rooms get released yet?

ridge racer Mon Sep 21, 2009 11:10 am

Ian, you will have to set up your room at Brunos or you could crash on the floor. I'd call for a room if I were you. The floors are dirty!
I'm stoked that your in, we should have some good times.

Dirtmanx are you coming? I'd love to see your new car.
Rich
