View original topic: Another Early Type 3 found - '63 Squareback Goto page 1, 2, 3, 4  Next

Well all I got word from a friend that there were a few squarebacks in a field a few hours from home so I thought I'd go take a look. I brought a trailer just in case as I heard the owner wanted them gone for a reasonable price. I don't need another but the disease runs deep... Due to bees nests I really didn't get to look at it... but from the VIN# 0207XXX it looks to be a May of 1963 Car. I have no clue what I am going to do with it until I see whats inside/underneath. Sell Complete to someone who will get it back on the road? Part? I'll dig a little and let you know what I find.... just can't believe I ran across 2 63's within 1 year. Let me know what you think..
Joel

Here is what I saw from the loading time...
-Hood is there just not on but it is from a 64 and not grey
-Wheels are all wrong for the year.. they almost look like 67 bug wheels

69SquareGuy Sat Aug 01, 2009 6:46 pm

it's white and he was/is still selling it.

Boo-Koo-Z Sat Aug 01, 2009 6:47 pm

A late one. He had a couple of them. I'm not interested though.

That '63 looks pretty nice. Saw it in your Gallery and was going to PM you for the skinny on it. Keep us posted. :D

69SquareGuy Sat Aug 01, 2009 7:15 pm

man if you had the hood you could just buff it out and roll it. that would be a bitchin' ride...

but hey, it's still badass anyway. :D

Cool, post more photos.

Is it primered over the original white paint or ?

lynhaus Sat Aug 01, 2009 8:46 pm

Look at all those parts in there, who knows whats in there. Very cool car.

OK here is the update. There seems to be some confusion between 2 cars here. I have now 2 63's. The white one is now a driver and is for sale in the classifieds. This Grey one is the one I just picked up. It appears that the gray paint is all original. The body itself doesn't seem to be too rotten however I pulled a majority of the parts out of the car and the floors = Not Good. I see this Gray 63 as only a parts car but I am sure those guys out in the mid west would see this as a nice starting point. Normally when I find a car like this with all the parts filled its a nice time sorting all the goods but this time it was a sad day. 80% of what was in the car was type 1 junk. There was an irs trans and a swing trans as well as a bug short block. Also the low backs that were buried are for a type 1.
I'll have some more pics to post tomorrow and yes I am at a x-road with this one. This car is worth a fair share in parts but as a whole not much.
If someone said I'd give you $700 cash for the car as it sits then I would say you have a deal... That would maybe save the car as well save me the time and effort of parting The car is beyond what I was hoping and don't see investing my time in it.
PS there is no title and it was parked for 20+ years where I found it.

Looks like a faded og Anthracite square to me.

EverettB Sun Aug 02, 2009 10:25 am

I was thinking it was Anthracite but what's with all the White where it's worn through?

SVuoti Sun Aug 02, 2009 10:35 am

I think the white is some kind of base coat that they used on early cars. My 62 variant and 65 notch have the paint worn out the same way.

Here you can see the drivers door with the white paint.

Russ Wolfe Sun Aug 02, 2009 12:26 pm

Do not make that a parts car. The early ones are too hard to find.
If you were closer, I would take you up on the $700 offer.

69SquareGuy Sun Aug 02, 2009 12:53 pm

BooKooZ! what's the color of the dash? any interior pics yet?

Soul Built Sun Aug 02, 2009 3:11 pm

Great score. Just like I like them; old, low, and dirty 8)

Boo-Koo-Z Sun Aug 02, 2009 5:03 pm

The dash is also the gray color. As far as parts car... only someone coming to get it will save it. I kept the car on the trailer and dropped it off at a friends house where it will sit for a week while I go on vacation... leaving Monday. I didn't snap any more pics yet and will when I get back next Monday. If anyone wants it they can still PM me and I'll answer my messages on Vacation.

Thats a sweet lookin ride. Just get some new pan halves and roll it. I'd kill for patina like that on my Notch.

69SquareGuy Sun Aug 02, 2009 9:50 pm

$750 for that? I would totally do it if it was here in southern california
