This is Ophelia. I am learning how to put her back together in the high hopes of having my own little ride. I'll be posting pics as I go and detailing my progress (and most likely my goof ups, too!)

OutlawAlice Sun Aug 09, 2009 11:57 am

Okay, here she is the day I bought her in all her glory!

OutlawAlice Sun Aug 09, 2009 12:11 pm

All cleaned out - ready to get started!

OutlawAlice Sun Aug 09, 2009 12:14 pm

Here's hubby applying primer. I wanted to leave her that beautiful sky blu, but someone had propped something up on her an spraypainted yellow, and she had been sitting next to a spray paint booth to boot.

Here she is going back together. This is all in one week after bringing her home!

Sapphire III reinstalled
Fenders and fender beading
hood and decklid
door rubber
taillights
seats

Aaaand here's the aftermath of having a group over to WATCH me put her together! LOL!

OutlawAlice Sun Aug 09, 2009 1:00 pm

Today I'm replacing teh outer seals in my pop outs. Here's pics. Including one of my two assistants, Casey!

Looking good. And I dig the Caddy too.

OutlawAlice Sun Aug 09, 2009 2:17 pm

Thank you! The Caddy is my husband's ride. Looks funny in our garage - big long caddy - little bug!

Great work! 8)

What's the plan for suspension?

OutlawAlice Sun Aug 09, 2009 4:12 pm

Gonna narrow the front beam 4" - add adjusters and drop spindles - drop the rear 2 notches and ride low! That's the plan. I'll be working on that as soon as I get the motor in. :D

Lots of black primer and nasty cheap beer posted so far.

I have no tolerance for stupidity and unwarranted nastiness. If you have nothing nice or constructive to say, don't bother commenting in my posts. It isn't funny, it isn't attractive and it makes you look like a miserable little jerk. If you post in here again without an apology first, I will simply ignore you.

That's what I was thinking...sad to see the OG paint go.
To each their own, I guess.

eurodub Sun Aug 09, 2009 9:42 pm

hoodride is just another overused cliche... i'm sure you can come up with something nicer than this. and please... no red wheels.. :?

i really like the before shots, but now is too late.
i was thinking more about this when started reading...

keep up the work.(was going to put a "nice" in there too  )

Emeritusx Sun Aug 09, 2009 11:05 pm

Hey Cheap or not at least it does not have a tree going thru the hood... And even later oven cleaner will still work, I am pretty sure the black would come off easy.

I for one am just glad to see another VW rolling...

I got a ration of shit for using rustoleum on my bus, but after two years now, no new rust and she still turns heads where ever we go...

So although I do fear the OG police I still am gonna hafta say why the hell not?

I was sick to let the OG paint go, but it has some minor body damage - crushed area in the hood, creased decklid, rumples in two fenders - which woudl make it impossible to keep the OG paint unless I drove around a pathetic looking bug. I have to replace the entire hood and already replaced the decklid.

You know Preacher Greg and Juggs???? :D Yep, it was his until earlier this year!! We're keeping her going and keeping in touch with the Haunted Howlers. We tried to catch up with them at Heavy Rebel in WInston Salem but we were up there to pick our son up from Wake Forest and couldn't take the caddy.
