X2 on the Thanks for Bumping it. Don't know if I'll ever make it to Newfoundland but it was great to ride along.

This is a trip we intend to make next summer in Gooda Frau, our 84 Westy. We have been to Newfoundland once before on a Harley (1992) and enjoyed our time there a great deal. Newfoundland's greatest asset is it's people, friendly, open, generous, fun loving, gregarious, musical and yet, ordinary, a breath of fresh air. If I weren't such a damned proud Nova Scotian, I'd wish I were a Newfoundlander.

Thanks for the road report, the photos and congratulations on your nuptials.

Thank you for taking the time to post all of your photos and the details of your travelogue! I felt like I was right along with you three...perhaps that is because most of us have taken long road trips in our Buses and understand the hopes, beauties and frustrations that occur along the way. I have a Mi'qMac friend in Deer Lake, NL and have wanted to take a trip there in my '86 Westfalia. I am also in western NC (Hickory). Do you all attend High Country campout or Everybus in Pleasant Garden?

I too revisited this entire thread again. Still haven't made it and I'm not making big plans ahead of time but I'm hoping to meander down Vt, NH, Maine, etc... and if things go well then I very well may continue up. I know you are supposed to book a ferry quite a while in advance but it the road runs out and a ferry can be had, then I'd like to do around the whole Island.

Can you remember what the ferry costs were, can you not stay in your van?, any info on anything would be greatly appreciated. I would probably do PEI now that there is the bridge. I'm retired so time and meandering is allowed. :) I'm also now carrying 2 emergency road service coverages and hopefully by next spring I will have done some "wrenching" on my own.

Rates for the ferry can be found here:
http://www.marine-atlantic.ca/eng/reservations.asp
You cannot sleep in your vehicle. You can get a bearth, otherwise you have to grab a seat somewhere. Dog's! I do recall seeing some dogs in cages in the corridor. There is no access to your vehicle once you are underway.
Reservations are recommended.
If you can do the trip I highly recommend it!
