Why does my turn signal indicator light up when I press on either the: brake, horn, or a left or right blinker? :? I install car audio for a job, but I don't really know where to start on such an old car. By the way its a 1964 baja bug.

What dose the wiring look like?

My guess something like this

I would suggest getting a good wiring diagram, and cleaning up all the wires,

Or just getting a new harness and starting over, I built my own for around $80 with a new fuse block.

Every thing has it own fuse which makes it easy to find faults...

Good luck

Probably a bad ground. Your voltage is feeding thru your tail light(s) filiment(s) and/or horn coil and not reaching ground.

I would say that you have a crossed wire somewhere. If they wires are original then the sheath is probably old and cracking. To tell you the truth i would rewire it with some nice new stuff..and get rid of that old VW fuse block.

You can get complete ready togo kits for about 200$. and tese have nice marked wire. or you can make your own.

You probably have problem with wires between indicator lamps, fuse block and up steering column since all these thing pretty much go through this area....

You probably need to get wiring diagram for year model and trace each wire out to see if insulation is frayed, rotted or broken....

I agree, sounds typical of a lost ground.

My first guess would also be a bad ground, run a temporary ground and see if that helps. :D

I can see the missing ground for lights, but pressing horn should not have any effect on lights, they are two non related circuits....

Any time you move turnsignal off center it will light blinker indicator .. That is what its supposed to do.... But do you mean it does not blink with turn signals?

The only place these circuits are common is they are all served off the same fuse (if wiring is still original) ...
