Hi there.

After 15 years of dreaming of it, I finally bought myself a 1973 VW SP2.

It is in pretty good shape but I still have to find some original parts (mainly interieur) to get it into perfect condition.

In Brazil the car is called "the most beautyful VW ever made"...

Check out more about what is going on in Brazil:

congrats! the sp2 and PUMA are my favorite. those sp2's are awesome cars. they have a very interesting sport styling and all metal bodies. here is a pic of one down here in miami, fl rolling on EMPI sprint stars.

Beautifull car!
I always had a softspot for those.
Just cant help thinking how that would look on a set of detailed 16" fuchs!
Fit a short early axle in the back and then a 16x9 ore something like that!
Hmmmm

great looking car. I would love to have a SP2 or a brasilia. You guys for sure got some good looking models. . . enjoy your new ride!

@jmw1982:

They were only sold in Brazil and only a few more then 10.000 units built by VW do Brasil.

@Tryle D. the real oggfk:
Thanks. It is getting harder and harder to find good ones. I have been looking and searching for quite some time I bought this one although it was way above my budget, but I could do it because the seller took my Variant as part of the payment.

@arod: these wheels look good on the car but I am more like keeping the car original.

@volksfahrer.nl:
sure, Fuchs would look good, but in my opinion a very rare car should stay more or less original. Origial wheels are also hard to find here in Brazil. Unfortunately the streets in Brazil are not the best, so I cannot lower the car. Right now I have 185/65 R14 on the car but I want to change that to 185 R14. These are way much bigger and fill out the fenders better. Perhaps then I will lower it just as much as the bigger wheels have risen the car.

@toydude111: Thanks. It is hard to recommend that car for anybody outside Brazil because it is very hard to find spare parts (a pair of taillights is more expensive then 1950-Split Taillights.

@RoachGhia:
Thanks!

@mattography:
Brasilias are pretty cheap to get, and you get all the parts for a Brasilia. The SP2 is different. Hard to find and hard to find parts.
Oh, by the way: I am not one of "You guys". ;-)
I am originally from Germany and just moved 2 years ago to Brazil. I was also very astonished to see all these different models when I first came here. I saw my first SP2 in Germany at a meeting in 1994. Ever since then I wanted one.

Look at it next to that Gol(I think)- the thing is TINY!!

Marco H. Sun Aug 23, 2009 2:09 pm

Yes thats true. it is very tiny.

Just for comparison:

Height:
Lamborghini Diablo 1100 mm
VW SP2: 1158 mm
Ferrari 348: 1170 mm
Porsche 924: 1270 mm
Porsche 928: 1282 mm
Porsche 911: 1300 mm

Little update: Inside the car.
Still missing: glovebox, 2 gauges are not original, bleep ("Holyshit") - thats how the brazilians call the grabhandle at the dashboard). Rearview-mirror, Sunvisors.
The Steering-wheel was once original but was previously reduced in size. Since I am over 1,80 meters, I think that I will leave it because space is really tight.
