I'm learning as I go...sometimes going before learning. Did I open a can of worms by prying out this grease seal?

| I'll have some stock struts for you once I slam my 73 Super. They are in much better shape. PM me if you want the wheels metal blasted. I know some local Philly people if you get stuck on something. |

Getting the seats out sans help was a minor triumph.
Strangely, the passenger side had this plug, but was not connected to anything. The same was not there on the driver's seat.
Also, where is the wire connector for the pass side seat belt warning buzzer connect? The wire runs on the right side of the center channel then disappears behind a panel in the battery tray where the left side connector was pretty obvious and I could trace where it met the wiring harness. :? |

Took off the fan shroud. I'd leave it on to drop the engine next time, but can't get a full rotation on the crank pulley to get to the torque converter bolts so it looks like I'll be disassembling the engine as best I can in place. Not catching any breaks on my first project...
more nesting material
and still more
and a random fist-sized stone
I'm wondering what they were trying to fix here
it's carpet with the fibers stuck in some sort of epoxy or something...enclosing some of the taillight wiring  |

| my super, being a cali car i basically inheritted was is ten times better shape, but i still ended up replacing or refurbishing EVERYTHING that makes it driveable, my grandpa's got a bead blaster, which i used on the brake drums and MUCH more. don't worry about busting those wheel bearings  by the time things start coming together it'll be worth the small amount of trouble to re-grease that stuff up anyway  |

No engine #? Perhaps a Brazilian/Mexican rebuild?
Stripping the engine in-car since I can't get to the torque converter bolts. Anyway, wrenching around, I rubbed off some carbon and could barely make out the numbers AE 783 034. Muir says it's 48hp 1600, Bentley 60hp. Just trying to learn as much as I can about my machine. |

On the other side in the wheel well
body filler and maybe some fiber glass to cover a 5 to 7 inch rust hole covered by the 'winter coating'...i knew i had issues with the holes for the fender bolts and the rust around the bumper mount, but now it looks like i'll have to replace the whole rear section of the wheel well... |

DaMunk,
Could you do a member of VWAR a favour whilst you are in the middle of this? Could you measure the size and location of the ATF tank hole (big one), from two fender mount holes. And the same for the Vacuum canister holes too? You can PM or email me offline if you can score these. I "thought" I had saved those two bit's of metal plus the lower engine compartment, but they went walkies somewhere....

removed the 17mm body pan bolts on the right side and this is what came out
a pic of the mounts through the rust hole
and a pic of the mounting plate itself
Gotta love the surprises revealed with every turn of the wrench :D |

Thanks Rick...no worries. Been working on the engine. The good news is after pulling the heads I can turn the crank pulley by hand and get a full rotation. :D
The bad news
yep...that's the missing valve head
#1 cylinder
the puddle is penetrating oil
after mopping up the oil in #4
I had a hell of a time with 4 cylinder sticking to the head...cracked a fin. I was pissed until I got the 1/2 head off, then a cracked fin didn't seem so bad. Looking forward to cracking the case this weekend. |

Body's off! This could be tricky. The area on the right side that's resting on the dolly is weakened and needing to be replaced.
The portion that would make the engine seal on the right needs replacing too. You can sort of see it here. I'm guessing I'll have to get this from a donor car? That quarter may become my Waterloo.
The pans
Mainly surface rust...may have to replace the left rear quarter. The battery tray def needs replacing
I got carried away removing the tar board. Between the ipod and the zen-like state that comes when doing repetitive tasks, I wasn't thinking and removed it from the center channel too.
I think I may at a halt with the pans now that the cold has finally hit. I'm afraid of exposing the metal under th assumption that it's too cold for rust halting acid treatments and POR/Rust Bullet to work properly.
Wheels look great Rick!

Back in the garage now that a) I don't have to wear snow shoes to get to it and b) it's warm enough to work for more than 20 minutes without losing feeling in the fingers. Nothing heavy, just some wire wheel/brush...

left heater channel
right front wheel
right rear
Should be a fun summer! |

holes in the battery tray aren't as bad as I thought
driver's side has some dings
and holes on the lip :x
and a clean(er) tranny - BA029 740...not original to the car
If money weren't an issue, I'd get the pan media blasted, but since I've got more time that money me, the grinder and the wire wheel are going to get to know each other really well. |
