I have a 67 bug in peices right now and I have decided to make a Baja out of it. What is the cheapest way to make it look half way decent? Are wheels tires and a baja kit all I need or do I need a cut and turned beam or spindles?

You don't need those things, but they help. I've seen cheap bajas that the owners just cut back the steel fenders and put dirt tires on them. Depends on what you want to do with it. For mud, the lift will help add bigger aggressive tires. I know alot of people who've had fun just beating on a stock one.

Thanks man...I want something that looks good too. What all would I need to make it have a stance like This one... http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3...p;start=20

I know about the baja kit I was just wandering about getting that stance like wheels and suspension. Thanks

And for the people that think I shouldn't cut it it was rearended pretty good.

That is my Baja you cited above. It is a stock front beam and turned two outside clicks in the rear. Those are 235's in the front- they rub, and 31/10.5's on the back.

Thanks for all the info. Will it look close to yours with raising it two splines since it's a swing axle? I know it will have a little camber but will it have too much? I think I'll check out that book too...I like that picture!

hey! the baja in the how to do it in a day link looks just like mine :o . although i have fiberglass on the rear. took me a year and a half to put together :? he only spent $500 and i spent  what? i didn't cut the front apron either and like the look. how did mine take so long? eat up soooo much money?? lol, lol, lol. and the saying that i have come up with that goes "another $2500.00 bucks and it will be ready for paint" is still true. oh yeah,, i threw all the good stuff at mine, and did take the time to do it all right the first time!.. anyways the how to do it in a day thread is pretty good info. check it out. also, where can i get one of those rear split oval window sections to put on the back of my baja?

I run 235's and 215's. Smaller tires than most.

Will it get the same amount of lift GreeneHoosier since yours is IRS and mine is swing? or will it have too muhc camber?

This one has 12" to the lowest part. Front is cut and turned 3/8's, the rear is just tweaked one notch . I once posted it has under 2000$ in it, but it's more like right around a $1000. This has a v6 engine. It now has all the glass and lights
