View original topic: How rare is my '65 Doubledoor Slider? Page: 1, 2  Next

Hi all, I just bought me first splitty after owning tons of other air cooled stuff.

I first saw this van about 3 years ago & have fancied it ever since.
After a long wait & passing through a few owners I now have it.

Question is, how many twin sliding door splits were made? This a LHD from Germany & is now in UK. It's a 1965.

Hopefully I can iron out the moody bits & make it into a gem.

Do you have the dual flipper seat?

pete nice Thu Aug 27, 2009 3:59 pm

No, just a moody rock & roll bed in the back & a bulkhead in the front.

Sweet bus. Like the color, too.

Very nice bus. Good luck finding production figures for that year, sliding and double doors. I would be happy with the fact that it's RARE and leave it at that :D

I would guess its more rare than a double sliding panel bus.
And '65 is pretty early for sliders.

As far as I know, VW kept no counts of options like sliding doors but I haven't seen very many. Most are 67s too from what I have seen.

Rare to see... nice bus!. :D Your "fancy" was a good one.

Cheers, I will keep you posted as to it's transformation into a better bus.

I have a ´67 double slider RHD.

The funny thing is that I am in Austria and have a RHD and you have a LHD in the UK....

Wanna swap?

WOB1 Fri Aug 28, 2009 7:00 am

No, mine is undergoing a full restauration at the moment.

That is pretty cool. I think mine will have to get the proper job in the long term.

It has a 4" narrow beam, straight axle bug box & 1835 at the mo. I have a 2007 sat waiting & want to go EFi & turbo too...

I've only ever seen '67's too.
Awesome bus!

the only other double slider i have seen was a 67 panael but what you have there is really cool does it have double flipper middle seat?

pete nice Fri Aug 28, 2009 2:33 pm

The original trim is long gone. There is a crap rock n roll bed which is a bit high when in seat postion. The front seats need trimming too.

LHD buses far out number rhds in the uk now due to all the imports, they say there are more split buses in the uk now that there ever were in the 60's

I can well believe.

It wouldn't be that hard to convert it to RHD, but don't think I really want to chop it bout that much.

Here are some more pics from today. I did a wheel swap & got rid of the sign writing & stickers.

Very cool bus!! I kind of preferred the previous wheels over the fuchs. But, hey, its what you like and want that counts. 8) I don't know about production numbers, but I'd say a double slider pre-68 is rare. 8)
