Amen to that!!!!

The issue is not year make and model,
The issue is weather a previous owner has defrauded the state by using a VIN from one vehicle and transfering it to another vehicle, Thats what APPEARS to have been done.
IF....... That is the case the new owner MAY end up with a big hassle in the future.
Why not simply find a legal, legitimatly registered vehicle and avoid all the legal problems that MAY arise in the future?
If you are pulled over and the officer wants to see both VINs and they do not match, you WILL have a major problem.
Facts will always set you free. |

If I thought I was going to look at a 74 and that baja is what I was shown, I would be pretty PO'd. We know the best combo is an IRS rear and a LP front. That car is the exact opposite AND the tierods on that year are the fine thread version which are weak IMO (if they haven't been swapped).
He should be advertising it as a 1968 Baja titled as a 1974. I would know what I'm walking into and that the seller isn't trying to hide something. I have no problem with the VIN swap, he should just be upfront with that fact. It's no big deal in states that don't do inspections. You can try and use the fact that he is trying to sell a Baja that is 6 years older than he is saying it is and negotiate the price down. It's a nice baja for the street, but I would pass anyway. Plenty out there... |

Just a couple things, it looks like quality work, but do you want a turn key or something that you could invest time into? I kind of see that as a show car. I see several come and go on the seattle CL.

This one has been forsale awhile, but its closer to see, is probably a step down in quality. I think this one is worth closer to $1700, but at least gives you an IRS and a negotiating point. I was going to get a cheap bug and build it, I set out a price, type and things I wanted on it and waited for the right one. Mine doesn't look great, but I got a fresh 1776 dealership built motor that just needed a rocker arm for $450. I've since built it up a little more and am getting a free paint job for a guy who wants to practice painting lol.
Mine is an offroad toy and not close to any kind of show car. |
