Yes....... Its easy, just get a electronic speedo unit and Hall Effect sensor that fits on end of stock VW speedo cable ( or get Hall Effect sensor with its own cable for VW).... Uses standard VW left front wheel drive...

You might want to look here: http://www.egauges.com/
They have speedo's from many different brands and a selection of sensors, and even installation instructions online so you can educate yourself before you buy.... http://www.egauges.com/Instruct.asp

There is also someone selling a "pulse generator" that fits on CV joint if you have IRS rear suspension, it reacts with magnetic sensor for speedo....IT is featured in latest (Oct) DB & Hot VW magazine on page 84, Made by Desert Craft.. http://www.desert-craft.com

Yes, you can, there are a couple options. I just bought an Autometer sport comp electronic speedo to match my Tach. I also got one of the pulse generator wheels from Zancat at Desertcraft. Way cool although i haven't had a chance to wire it up yet.

or you can go my route and use your tomtom gps like i do in my baja and boats and whatever else i want to know my exact speed. they charge the battery in them while plugged in and work for ten hours without a cigarette lighter outlet.

NOTE:..... So far as I know GPS's are not legal in most states as SPEEDOMETER....... But it only may be issue if you get the "nasty" cop.....

In future it may change, but for now, its probably not going to get by the law.... "Legal" or not, GPS may be valid option....
