| hello, can anybody tell me how to correctly measure for a new set of axles? I have a 4 seat sand rail that has a bus trans/housing and arms under it.They were bent pretty badly so i took off the bent arms and installed 3x3 aftermarket boxed arms under it. Now i need to put stubs and axles and disc brakes on.. any help will be greatly appreciated !! |

If its a stock length torsion with 3x3s and bus trans they should be 19 1/4" axles. If you want to be sure you should assemble the rear suspension without the torsion bar or coilover whatever the case may be and install your CV joints without boots or axles. I like to use a piece tubing or a wooden dowell in place of the axles, then just cycle the suspension to its highest point and mark the rod/dowell, repeat for the lowest point and this should give you max axle length then just add 1/4 to it so it doesnt bind. Also check the center of travel (where the axle will be the shortest) to make sure the axle (rod/dowell) still has room to slide back and forth and is not bottoming out on the CV flanges or the frive flanges on the trans.
Another little tip for you, if you have the little seals that go in the center of the drive flanges on the trans, remove them and clean them up real good with carb spray and just fill the area with silicone. The aftermarket axles are able to slide in and out and may come in contact with this seal and cause 90wt to leak into the CV and cause premature CV failure. This wont happen if you just silicone it. |

| level your trans cv cup and stub cv cup and measure the inside use a dowell or whatever, leave about a 1/4" play in between the axle and cups so the axel can float |
