| I'm shopping around for disc brake conversion kits, and I see some for long axle, and some for short axle. I'm assuming this is in reference to the stub axle. How do I know what I have? |

NVM, I think I found my source of confusion. I am running 3x3 IRS, but had to get creative with my parts on hand, so I'm running wide 5 rims, which typically come from a swingaxle. And it's the swingaxle length they are referring to. I think.
Am I gonna be able to get away with a "kit" or am I going to have to piece things together? I'ma keep shopping... |

Nope. Still confused.
For example on Moore Parts, there is a "Long Axle for use with 3x3 trailing arms" and then "Short Axle for use with 3x3 trailing arms." So that kinda takes Swingaxle out of the discussion, and yet there is still a choice for long or short axle.
Help? |

Never heard of a long or short stub axle in reference to a standrd IRS or 3x3 trailing arm.
I use the same rotors for the long axle '68 swing tranny as I do for the IRS. |

| Yeah, the selections don't make a lot of sense to me. Your info helps, though. I suppose I could make some calls. Just wondering if anyone here could shed some light on the subject. |

On standard VW style stuff it's either short splne rotors for swing axle trannies to and including 67.
Long spline rotors for 68 swing and the IRS.
Got a shop local to you?
Try them. |

Aha. That helps even more. I recall using my old swingaxle drums on my 3x3 arms. I had to stack a bunch of washers under the axle nut to get things to tighten up. So...that probably means I have the "long (spline) axle."
And yeah, I do have a small buggy shop in the area. |
