they have a inner diameter of 28mm. stock 36hp have 20,5mm this is an increase of about 80-85%
they are just a bit louder from 83 db A to 83,5 db A and the sound is more powerful
http://www.tde-kaefer-tuning.de/index.php?pageid=9
i used them and have the compare between
stock repro
that repro with TDE
and abart tipp4 from mr. wob
this was on my supercharged engine i think something between 60-70hp
with stock repro it totally felt like the exhaust was the major of all. it was very hot and the high boost level felt like hurt(a huge backpressure in the hole system) ok it also was 14psi.
just the change to TDE endpipes was such an amazing jump.
totally different engine, feals like no backpressure problem is there. every close step by gaspedal up and up is the same step in power and boost gauge readings like on a line. and much more power. i have thought that it will improve, but not that much.
then i mounted a abart, my hole settings go wrong but in the bad way. after fixing the air fule ratio it was less power..not dynoed because it was that much that i could feel it.
in summer i will also go with my stock ld VW muffler with inner pipes and TDE endpipes i think thats the best way in vintage look
4 pipes on the original would be very loud, because the inner pipes ended near the endpipes. that the reason the old ones was no longer produced in germany because they was to lound and last year a seller told me the production was stopped by law by reason of the noise. but if that is correct ???

Just curious if anyone has put on tapered exhaust tips on a 36hp?
Do they sound good??
Anyone know the length of these tips??
Thanks

wondering what is a more efficient muffler design.
Stock VW with equal length
vs
356 Porsche 3 chamber with balance pipe to assist scavenging? |

I have a set of these on my 72 Super. They're the same as the Formula Vee tips that Volkswagen sold through dealers. My car came with them new.

You could ask Cip1, they are selling them, or something that looks like them.

Hallo Grüni, just curious, where did you place the O2 sensor when measuring Abarth and the stock repro?
I had the o2 bung welded today to my Abarth repro (mrwob). Had a chance to see the innards too.
In the Abarth patent picture there's a central silencer tube connecting the right and left end chambers. The tailpipes are connected to this central tube. In wob version the tailpipes are within the end chambers, the connecting silencer tube area is narrower.
Also the separate cylinder exhaust tubes are shorter inside the muffler. #4 and #2 don't make a full u-turn, the turn is more like a "J" that ends before the bottom of the chamber. #1 and #3 don't reach the opposite wall, they end around halway through the round muffler. |

| Can I get some comparison measurements from some of you that have already installed you WW Abarth mufflers? I installed mine on the stock '56 Oval and was really suprised at how LOW the tips exited the rear apron! From bottom of apron,(not cut-outs),to the top of the pipes measures approximately 2 3/4". Looks like they are WAY too low! |

| I have already the WW Abarth on my Oval. And yes: the tips are very LOW! Some guys on the Maikäfertreffen in Hannover are wondering about the position. |

| I have been scouring pics of original Abarth mufflers and it appears that the pipes exited the muffler in a straight fashion, not the "down-n-out" way that these repops do.What a shame that the exhaust exits aren't even remotely close to original! For a $500+ product, the manufacturers should have atleast tried. I do like the sound and new feel of the 36 but come-on...3" below the f@#k'n apron?!? |

| Thanks for the pics neighbor! So originally it was intended that the tail-pipes extend further down? How is it that I have seen many examples with the tips being very close to the stock muffler verticle centerline? Perhaps someone can share more images of original Abarth on their cars...I would share some pics of my setup, but I am limited to my"dumb-phone" at the moment. |

| My guess would be the curved tips are for the 55 and earlier without cutouts on the apron, and the straight pipes are for 56 up. |

| I have an idea...is it possible that these aftermarket Abarth's were designed to work with both the the beetle and the split window bus to accommodate,(spell check here),the rear bumper on the type 2? If you look at the cut sheet images previously on this forum, you can tell that the exhaust pipes are not exiting as far south in comparison to the inlets from #1 and#3 cylinders. |
