OK ladies, at least he has enough tact to hide his painted toenails with Crocks, so let's cut him some slack, OK? :)
I'm just curious to see if these latest photos are going to be incentive enough for someone to finally cut one of these mufflers open to see what's inside. Good excuse to cut and re-fit those tailpipes into a more favorable location Thomas Pedigo? |

Should only take about 6 months to recieve it... |

Has anyone installed the WW muffler on a ghia?
I'm curious how tight it will be against the rear apron and rear bumper blade.
Thank you |

I am confused now! I just put the WOB onto my 54 and it sat so close to the apron all the paint blistered! WW looks like it would suit the non cut out apron
better, but inches of space  Any pics of non cut out aprons with the WW muffler and/or original? |

| If you should decide that the WW muffler fits better,I would be interested to trade with you, if you were so inclined! Good luck on your fitment. |

If the Wob inlet pipe and outlet tip are basically level, can you measure the approximate offset from bottom of the j-tube to bottom of the tip so I can get an idea of where it would sit? There must be more going on? I just put
in new engine mounts and I dont think the apron could be too low. |

| The measurement you asked for,(bottom of exhaust tips compared to bottom of J tubes), is 2 1/8". The outside diameter of tips are 1 1/16". So that would make the top of tips approx. 1 1/16" BELOW bottom of J tubes. Hope this helps |

damn that bug looks cool, thats an awesome period pic 8)
i have to say this thread has been a good read but an epic dissapointment for me,with wolfgang1 explaining that the stock system could be better-(anyone got a defence for it??surely it would perform better at high rpm?)-it did corfirm my suspicions though,i have never believed all of Abarths exhuasts could have been that benificial in extra output unless they were the proper tuned Fiat,Simca items etc, they were really there to fund the racing, they do look and sound nice though!
then the boss-everettb tells us it wont clear a barndoor apron!aaaaarrggh! |

Well the posts here are very imformative and helpful about these reproduction 4 tip mufflers...........the Samba is a great Vintage VW community! :D
While I like the sound of the WW muffler, the lower apron clearance is a joke with post 1955 cars, it looks horrible like the muffler is hanging on the ground, the pipes are way too low and at the wrong angle, YOU CAN MOW GRASS WITH THAT MUFFLER. :(
Has anyone discussed this design failure with them at WW? Seems that they could fix the problem with some repositioning and to straightening out of the pipes. And leave the old design for the pre 1956 cars and sell the newly repositioned style for the post 1956 cars, offer TWO styles of muffler, hey that's marketing! :D
And in this photo from another thread posted by Stale Air you can see the original pipe stance of the 36hp Abarth, which was high and tight close to the body apron.
That Mr. WOB muffler looks like it works perfect on the post 1955 cars, fits them right, but some people have said that on the pre 1956 cars the muffler is too close to the paint and the finish blisters?
Oh and I also took at look at the seller feedback for Mr. WOB and it really looks like even though his muffler and other items like the Judson gauge are fine products, his business etiquette is far from perfect and someone waited almost 6 months for a muffler in the USA and some people NEVER received their ordered items at all :(
Stinks, I really would like a Abarth Style 4 tip muffler on my car and even if I could find an original 36hp Abarth muffler, I'm sure I couldn't afford what it would cost me $2,000+ and I'm just guessing that price, it might be too cheap?
Anyone have any recent experience with the Mr. WOB 4 tip muffler, I would love to hear a sample of what they sound like.........yeah stinks the WW muffler is so lousy fitting/looking because it REALLY SOUNDS GOOD!

Here you are Tom...this was a Mr Wob repro on my '59 Judson Beetle:

How loud is it? Hmmm depends how high you have the volume set on your computer...that's the problem trying to quantify it without a db meter. In my opinion it was an acceptable level, not much louder than the pea-shooters but a deeper tone. |

Very kool John thank you!
Here's another question with all these reproduction 4 tip mufflers, does anyone know how well the FLAT 4 Abarth 4 tip style muffler fit the post 1955 cars?
I remember ages ago this came out and I remember reading then that they didn't fit well and hundreds of people complained, but that they redid the muffler and the later production mufflers worked? .....................this is now a discontinued product, am I right? Or is the WW one the same muffler?
And didn't someone back in the late 1980's early 1990's in Denmark make reproduction Abarth 4 tip mufflers out of Stainless Steel, or was that muffler a thicker double pipe 356 Porsche style muffler for sport 36hp VW?
I don't remember? But, I know they were talking about them back at Bad Camberg 1995...........
Anyone know of anyone else making a high quality Abarth 4 tip style muffler for 36hp other than WW and Mr. WOB?

The WW "Abarth" is made by CSP in Germany...and is an excellent quality and fit...just the tailpipe issue is not good for some.
The poor fit of the Flat4 "Abarth" and their unwillingness to tackle their fit issue was the reason Stephane made his SS version. Stephane's version fits perfectly but as we all know some people are unwilling to commit to Stephane's erratic customer relations.
They are the only two options since Flat4 stopped making the ill-fitting mild steel version. |
