I'm in the market for a new pedal assembly. Junkyard pedal set just isn't doing it for me. I'm starting to price things out, and I see different bore sizes available, and I'm wondering if anyone out there can give me some guidance, based on personal experience if possible. But I'll take all the tips I can get.
This will be for my 2 seater rail, around 1100 lbs. Driven 90% in the sand. (The other 10% access trails and stuff...) Running stock drums in the rear, for now. Possibility of going disc in the future, but not in the budget right now. No front brakes.
For the clutch, I'm running a Kennedy Stage 1 pressure plate. |

| Well you have a dilima. The MC bore size will depend on if you run drum or disk. The drum brakes require a smaller bore. If you are going to go to Disk later then you will need to upgrade to a larger bore. You can use the larger bore on the drum system however you pedal will be harder to push and not have a good feel to it. If you use a smaller bore on disk then the pedal will be soft and feel spongy and the brakes will not be as effective. Personally I would go directly to Disk brakes, do not pass go pay your 200 bucks and be happyer in the long run and out of jail. |

That's the kind of info I was looking for. It was also what I was not wanting to hear...spend more money now, hehe.
I guess to that end, is there anything I need to know about doing a disc conversion with 3x3 trailing arms. I remember seeing somewhere that someone had to do a little bit of creative thinking to get it to work. |

| There are inexpensive (around 200.00) bolt on Disk brake systems avalable for the rear. How much modifications required would depend on the way the arms are designed. The kits come with a bolt on caliper bracket that uses the 4 bolts that hold the outer VW bearing retainer in place. Some of the boxed arms will have clearence issues with the bracket. Sometimes its easyer to weld on a bracket to hold the caliper in place. You can also buy the VW rotors and pick up some junk yard calipers and make them work. Just make sure they are for a 3/8" thick rotor. |
