Built in late september 56,correct four tab hood,W decklid, italian repro front fenders.Rear apron has been replaced, not an amateur repair but not restorer level either...journeyman bodyshop style.Right rear fender gone.pan and body numbers match, pans appear too good to be originals but the car is a central CA car and will know for sure once the body comes off...smooth wheels, boxes of parts, many extras looks like its all there except the tail light housing.Seats are red leatherette, hood was horizon blue ...looks like some mix and match went on but for 600.00 total investment so far I dont feel too bad |

You’ve got your work cut out for you, but at least it doesn’t look like that
work will be dealing with rust. I am so jealous of you California guys. |

Don't be too jealous, the downside to getting local rust free cars is that you've got to live in those hot dry areas that support them! Hot dry heat is NOT everyone's idea of a fun life style.

No,they make this thing so you can buy them in a hot dry area and take them to your home...its called a "trailer"...I used one to haul the car from one hot dry area to another hot dry area...you could easily haul a car from a hot dry area to a damp humid area with one of these "trailer" thingys and a vehicle to tow it with! And no I did not have to show proof that I live in a hot dry area to buy a car from a hot dry area. In fact Im glad some people think you have to live in hot dry areas to buy rust free cars...it "saves" them for us hot dry area people... |

It's a crapshoot buying a car in a "hot dy area" when you live n Ohio and having it shipped to you sight unseen, from an anonymous seller.
It would be cumbersome to go fly out and look at a car every time you see one worth looking at.
Therefore, people who live in hot dry areas have an advantage.
It seems the most plentiful place for dry VWs and parts is in Northern California. |

The cost of the logistics involved with buying a car out west outweighs dealing with the rust issues found in other areas IMO.... |

Ture, but the price you paid is what I'm jealous about. You paid $600 for
that car but once I include shipping it would cost me between $1600 to
$2000 for the same car. |

| You stated my point in a different way... would you pay a thousand bucks more for a rust free car?...is it worth it? ... as for my deal,it was almost two years in the making while situations changed between me and the seller...I basically waited him out till he was in a position to sell at the price I would pay.More than once he had other deals going on the car and he would tell me about them... man I would agonize whether I should match the price but I held my ground...in the end it worked out though... |

Been looking at the car and building shelves in the garage, got a few boxes of stuff I want to sort and store before I begin taking the body off.
The problem I have? what to build...Do I bite the bullet and do a 100 point restoration (or get as close as I can)or build a resto / custom merging the best of both worlds ( and hope it doesnt look like ass when Im done)...problem Im having is that there are so many examples of nice cars done either way...what do you think? |

Picked up this 36,its a 59 model...and a swingarm syncro trans for 120 bucks...crankshaft end play is minimal, and it turns a complete revolution so i feel good about the core...The carb on it is a ford flathead V-8 2bbl with some kind of home made manifold... |
