I just bought a 66 beetle and plan on building a capable class 11 look alike. How much lift can i get out of cut/turn front beam and reindexing the rear? If i do that i have to get new longer shocks? I currently have wide fiberglass fenders on it, do you think i should just cut them to around stock size or try to buy stock fenders?
It has a 1300cc in it with dual port heads...the heads are cracked and i am losing compression. I am ordering some 85.5 cylinders/pistons and have a single port 1600 head on stand by, just need the intake manifold i suppose. But it does run, luckily.

I think the fenders look ok the way they are. A nice improvement wouldn't be new fenders, but new tires.

Whatever you do, Dont cut that up........
There is no definate answer as to how much lift you will get. Maybe 3 inches or 5 including a body lift.
If you are looking for a class 11 look, leave the fenders as they are and if you do want baja fenders buy some and sell those.
With a 1300 you want to go with the closest to stock tires size that you can.
If you are going to put in a 1600 then simply take it to a tire shop and ask them to fit the largest size truck tire they can without hitting the fenders. Usually 15x27 to 30 inches. |

wont the rear fenders kill my clearance though? they are extended down pretty far... I currently have s10 wheels, should i keep those and have them put all terrains on them, or should i look into different wheels?

if i am not mistaken. S10 wheels are 14s. 15s would give you a wider range of sizes and styles to choose from. before you buy some monster truck tires i would do your lift to see which combo will work for you. a good ball park size to shoot for would be 235-75-15. get one or two, which can be used, to use as a tool to help measure for clearance. after you have done your lift and like the way the used tires look, then you can shop for newer tires and wheels. you also have the option of removing the adaptors and running some wide5 15 inch wheels which might be better if you plan to do any heavier offroading.

In the pictures above does the rear end look to low to you guys? To me it looks like the bug has a pretty bad rake on the rear. I am going for the class 11 style, are the class 11 fox shocks just replacements for stock? Or do i need to cut holes in the body/fab mounts for them?

Definitely looks a little saggy in the back. Ditch the wheels and adaptors and go for some wide fives. There is actually a pretty wide selection of rims available in the wheel and tire classifieds here on the Samba.

Go to the Samba Classifieds and under general parts then wheels and tires. You will see lots of adds for wide fives, and or "smoothies" the older wheels(stock) do not have a round center hole these(and others) are all "wide fives" called this because the spread between the lugs are so widespread. The aftermarket sells wide fives with a large round center hole. Adaptors are crap if you really want to do any offroading. It is also possible to adapt to vw four lug with drum change and spacers.
