So what kind of cfm does your avarage VW motor need? I was thinking that the housing with a 3" inlet would be OK. Or would the motor need more?

I bought the same filter as you did, (the one in first picture). I have yet to take it off road but how did it handle? I thought it was a little small when I got it (I had to ship it so I didn't know how big it was). I don't live anywhere near sand dunes but I'll be driving on dirt and gravel roads which kicks up alot of dirt. Will this one be sufficient?

You have to buy the inside foam filter by itself. Not included with the paper filter and housing. I just bought one and that's how I found out, so I ordered a couple of the foam filters. Ol' John

displacement times red line will give you a max flow rate in your intake.
example- none turbo
1600cc=0.05650347cubic feet x 6000rpm=339cfm |

Ya I brought it inside and opened it up to see if there was a filter in it, there was already a foam type filter inside, I didn't see a paper filter like you said came with the housing. Its winter where I'm at so it won't be on the road for a couple months, if you could tell me how its worked for you would be great. Thank you. Also I have stock cyclinders with the stock solex carb.

I made some aluminum carb covers for my dual 34ICT setup. Great in mud and the woods but they lacked a dust removal stage. I never had an issue with mud getting stuck in the filter media since the expanded aluminum woundn't let it pass though and they are easy to clean up after.I have them for sale after I installed my ecotec.

i was thinking of trying to get a 4X4X4 or 6X6X6 pvc watertight box and make a snorkle come off of it? I'm not sure right now, just brainstorming for when the day comes i'm ready to put an engine in it.
