View original topic: Zenith Carb on a 2110cc Engine

I've been considering installing a Zenith on my 2110cc engine to keep things simple. I've been having some issues with the dual 40 IDFs on there now.

I have a Zenith that has been running on a 1641cc engine for years. It's proven to be very reliable.

My 2110 engine has an Engle 120 cam, 8.5:1 compression, ported dual port heads with 40x35.5 valves. Bosch 009 with a Pertonix ignition.

I'm wondering how I should set up a single Zenith for this engine. Jets? Venturis? Where can I find these parts?

I'm just throwing around the idea of using the Zenith. I may end up just putting in the time to figure out what's wrong with the Webers.

Sorting out the Weber problems will be more rewarding when done.... The Zenith probably will not come even near the performance of the Webers....

Art at ACE has Zenith parts and knows a whole bunch about these carbs.

Thanks for the tip. I'm only considering this if my Weber problems continue.

I know I will get more power out of the Webers, but the Zenith has proven to be fool-proof on my Baja Bug for many years.

I contacted them via email and they said they were short on Zenith parts.

90% of IDF problems is plug idle circuits , If there very old, you will see a small brass cup shape plug, use a tap and pull those out. and clean.

I think the single Zenith is good for small cams. I'm not sure how much overlap a Engle 120 has, but a lot of reversion in a center mount carb manifold is not your friend, especially at low engine speeds.

My dad has a single Zenith on a 2180 with a wild cam (not sure because he refuses to pull the oil pump to see if the cam has a stamping). It idles terribly when cold and runs pretty bad at low RPM. I guess it has a decent midrange, but the top end sucks since the carb is too small. You may be OK because the 120 is not as wild as whatever he has. I'd keep the IDFs or go to EFI.

I have a 2180 with a Weber cam version of the Engle VZ 30 cam idle is solid and it pulls hard off idle. I do have a choke for the cold days. Look at my video of it idleing / checking the timing.
Look at some of the other videos. They are on here and under VW2180 on youtube.
