View original topic: Where are the Blue Ridge Parkway pics?!? *NEW PICS!*

I'm asking since we haven't made it up there yet. So sad because the wheather has been absolutely gorgeous and the bus is ready to roll! Our schedule has just been too chaotic.
Here's hoping that someone has already been on the parkway this season and can share pics with those of us less fortunate

a little early for color changing, no? it's still mostly green around here.

and while this is merely a suggestion, why not keep pics in one thread (one that already exists) http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=164107

I'd give it about 1- 2 more weeks, depending on cold spells. May be earlier though due to lack of rain. Lack of rain makes the leaves turn color sooner. Late October is just about right where the Shenandoah meets the Potomac.

Yeah, maybe I'm getting a bit anxious, but the leaves are turning early around here.
Maybe this post will inspire others to make "the ultimate bus ride!"

So, am I hearing a Blue Ridge Parkway - Bus/Westie caravan in the making? Although, I haven't attempted any major moutain climbs yet, damn better get my CHT gauge installed.

Alright already! We made a day trip up on the parkway this past Saturday! Drove through a downpour around Martinsville (yeah, it held up the race) but drove out the other side into a beautiful sunny day!

It was all five of us plus the dog. My 17-yr old daughter took most of these pics- she was the most anxious to make the drive. The bus ran as perfect as it can, no problems whatsoever! This is becoming an annual pilgrimage for us, but if something happened to the bus I can honestly say that none of us would feel like making the trip again. Funny how these things become "part of the family . . ."

Enjoy :D

Caught the sunrise that morning from our million dollar sleeping spot. It is great being self contained.

what a way to wake up....perfect

The Natural Bridge......What a tourist trap, it's $18 a person to see this. I'm realizing I am turning into my father. There is no way I would go for that.

earthnsurf,

Great pics! I envy you because our schedule wouldn't allow more than a one-day trip, no camping. This Friday, my daughter's class is taking a field-trip to Natural Bridge (yeah, you're right- It's a tourist trap!) and I've got to know: Where is your million dollar sleeping spot??? That's gorgeous, man!

Didn't see you while we were up that way . . . Did see a pale green `71 going south near Maybry Mill and also an orange Westy up closer to the Rocky Knob area. Samba members, maybe?!?

I was down there a few weeks ago, but I was sick and my bus was running like hell (make sure you check your oil with hydro lifters LOL!) and I just wanted to get back to NY, so my idea of cruising the Blue Ridge got nixed. Maybe in a few weeks I'll take another ride down there.

yeah we pretty much have nothing but time right now. The trip was gorgeous for sure and the bus was running great. Perfect time of year to be up there. Didn't see any other busses though, we rarely do.
We've been going for a year and a half now traveling the country and have gotten really good at slipping in places to sleep for the night.(see picture below) I can't remember where exactly that turn off was, but it was a turn off that we slept at right on the parkway.

The windows are still wet on the inside.

A few(for now) from Oct 15th or so. It rained the whole week we were there. But it was still a great time.

I can't wait until next year to drive the skyline drive. Unfortunately I am in mid process of re-building my bus and it is in quite a few pieces.
Pictures are beautiful. At least mine should be ready for a spring foilage drive through on the way to ddwbeagles place.
