Yeah  I had to leave her at Bubbas on the way home. We bolted up a mystery motor Wednesday before Daytona, made it over O.K. and drove all around Daytona fine.....time to get home and it felt like she was running out of gas after driving on I4 for a couple of miles at high RPM (3,000 ish)....pull over and it would idle all day. Pull back on I4 after idling for 5 or 10 mins and then a few miles down the road at high RPM it would feel like it was running out of gas again.....

I did not feel like dealing with it Sunday so Bubba was nice enough to let my bus crash there for a bit.

I was also nice enough to steal the rims and bumpers off it! I was told it sounds like a coil problem. Nothing major.

Cool. I planned on putting bay window bumpers on it and 14 inch Mercedes rims on it to "modernize" it a bit. Those little ass tail lights gotta go too....way too small for safety sake.

I have a few nice OG oldschool Bosch blue coils. i dont know WHY I left that piece of shit Hecho En Meheeko coil on there. Also have a fresh 019 for it until I get my other motor finished for it.

Hey that was the place we stayed in, we called it Fleaside Inn. Were you there for the thursday night riot? Cops were called, a few of the H2o guys trashed a room and set a toilet on fire!! A girl got hurt pretty bad too.

I think WJ is an awsome show, the setting for the bus show is the best I've seen, the setting for the Sunday show is kick ass......I'm an old school VW kind of guy, I think VW shows should be first and foremost about the cars, and the people who love the cars....about getting together and talking "stupid shit" about cars (like my wife says...she doesn't get it)..... :D :D :D :D .....in my own humble opinion, I think all the skating, surfing, etc.etc. should be reconsidered, there is an incredible amount of work that goes into making those other events work, and I honestly think they take away from the "core" point of the weekend, which is the cars, and the getting together of the enthusiast....

at this show (and others) you have people going every which way for 3 or 4 days.... I think you should try to concentrate all these people in one general area, have a KICK ASS party on friday, with a cover charge.... the bus show on Saturday..... another KICK ASS party on Saturday night(with a cover charge), I mean bands, booze, loudness, etc.etc.....by keeping everyone in the general area, people can get together, talk shop/shit, get intoxicated and not have to worry about getting in their car and driving 15/20 minutes to their hotel and risk getting caught driving drunk.... then have the car show on Sunday, with a cover charge...

I think you should at least try to get a little something back from the local businesses where the bus show is being held, they are, after all, benefitting from having the bus show there........

just some ideas, observations......either way, Joe, Bill, Bubba, Chadd, Mike and all the other guys involved in making this happen do not deserve to be fucked with......constructive critisism, hell yes...complaints voiced in a respectful manner, hell yes...hopefully next year's show will be even better, hope to see you all there......only a year left till the next show.... :D :D :D :D

I think the Friday night party proved it already. If $5 wasn't such an issue, then that pavilion would have been jamb packed instead of everyone parking outside and later ditching. Here's what I'm refering too. If the scene won't support events then they simply won't happen. I agree the band was'nt the greatest so there was less incentive to enter. But mention about enthusists being squeezed is BS! You tell me of a show where there is as much bang for the buck.........

Actually Bill, what's BS is to take a day off of work on Friday to enjoy the pre-party and come to find out that no one is going inside. I'm sure is was a surprise for the majority to know of the cover charge and more of a surprise for you guys wondering why no one wanted to come inside. "Word" got around of such a great party from last year that many made it a point to make it this year. I believe if everyone was aware of the cover charge in advance, you guys would have filled it up. As far as the squeezed comment goes, interpret as you wish. I don't think that comment was directed to bash. It was just a simple observation. Overall I had a great time this year and in the past years as well. If you would have come inside you would have known we were at capacity as far as cars are concerned. We would'nt be able to host anything at Destination next year because of that and our relationship with them was already strained. If it's BS then do me a favor and don't come next year at all! Obviously you are in the minority here. Yes there will be bumps in the road but thats how events like this are formed. You try stuff and if it works you go with it. If not then it goes away. I, for one don't think the whole weekend should be planned. Let people do as they wish ....shit I'd like to hang out myself. But this "BS" about driving up and being dissapointed is a joke. Plus it has been advertised for months on the website. Hey I register at your event and pay to drive on public streets and sit in traffic. For what? Because I support what your doing.......Get it? ](*,)

Soooo, it was advertised to last till midnight, and it was over at 9:00 oclock, even one of the promoters was leaving when the band packed up at 9:00. With all that said and done you wouldnt be dissapointed if you were expecting it to last to midnight, like it was advertised for months on the flyers and website? Really, not just a little bit dissapointed?

Actually it was advertised til going til 11pm. Destination Daytona (vevue)
shut it down at 10:30pm.

This was out of our hands. Dont bitch about 30 minutes.

Joe, all I am trying to do as I stated in "Wide Five's" post is basically constructive critisism, (building blocks for next year). I have supported all 3 of the WJ's and will continue to support them. I hope that you, Bill, Bubba, and Chad all understand that. I think alot of good ideas have been mentioned here, and I think for the most part that is all everyone is trying to do, and people will continue to do every year to make WJ better.

And just so youthink that I wasnt "bitching about 30 minutes" your website, and flyers say this....

DUBMOM Thu Mar 04, 2010 11:46 am

This message is for Joe, since he has failed to respond to anything emailed to him or posted on Vortex. We attended DubJam on Saturday, inside show. Not bad, but a few issues that need addressed. First and formost, cash awards were advertised on the website for Best of Show, three different places. First Place $300, Second Place $200, etc., etc. Those were not given out nor has Joe reponded to numerous emails concerning these, as the winners would like what was advertised. (Even though they go to shows to have fun with other VW owners, but winning just adds to a great time).
Also, I personally won Best Modified VW Other, First Place. When I went up to the stage to receive the award, the award was lost. After the show, myself and the other person who placed that did not get their plaque returned to the stage and asked Kathy JAcobs about it. She was kind enough to take our name and address to see if Joe can send to us. According to that source, he was told he owes these prizes, but she was told not to worry about it. No return emails, no posts from him stating how he is going to fix, no phone calls returned, as I have personally left a message . Tyler from Europlates (?) who made the plaques contacted Joe himself to see what he could do to rectify this, and Joe told Tyler that he has not received any emails. Someone on Vortex posted this website to post on since Joe is responding to this site. So Joe, what are you doing about this.

Just to clarify on this, We searched through all the plates that were there for the event and didn't find any for DUBMOMs class or the other persons class. As she stated, we wrote notes/addresses where their name was on the awards list so Joe could take care of it after the event weekend. I was only in charge of registering the cars that day and tallying the awards and nothing else.

Gerson...

thank you for your constructive critism :)

Some of your thoughts have already been discussed internally & will most
likely be put into place for WinterJam 2011

SURFING & SKATING
The Surf Event will most likely be just a laid back thing instead of a Pro Event.
This will take less work plus it will not be as big as a deal if we have to cancel
it due to lack of waves like this year. The Skate event will also most likely be
discontinued during WinterJam & we will most likely just keep the skate contest
that takes place on Sunday at Volks Jamboree in the public skate park.

DYNO & PARTY @ DESTINATION DAYTONA
We will no longer be using Destination Daytona for any events. They are too sketchy
to work with. This years events almost didnt take place because they pulled some
crap about a week before the event & then again 3 days before the event.
The dyno event is going to get moved closer to the bus show on beachside.
The party will also get moved closer to the bus show as well.

My virgin WJ/DJ experience:

Went to Motorsports Zone on Friday. Arrived at 10am. Expected to Pay $5 to get in as stated on DubJam website (site taken down as of 3/3/10). Also $5 entry was noted on WJ site >> http://www.daytonawinterjam.com/motorsports

Admission Fee:
• $5 per person @ the Gate
• 1 Price gets you into the Motorsports Zone & BarBcruise
At “the gate” they were not collecting the $5 (odd), only asking what events you were participating in. I was only there to watch and hang out for the “GTG”, so I parked along the outer row just like everyone else.
The AutoX was very cool and wish I had signed up as it looked really laid back. The lady on the mic all day actually threw me the keys to her S2000 and said “go take it for a spin” ….very cool people. It was nice to see a bunch of O2 and H2O ripping through the cones all afternoon. This probably wont come back which is too bad.

Dyno was…well a dyno, pretty cool..they seemed to do the best they could with the time it took to get a car up there, hook it up properly and get it down for the next one…hats off to them.

WinterJam shirts or some kind of “Motorsport Zone” stuff for sale?? Nope, just Bike Week garb.

Food? Sorta….A Hooter Trailer with hotdogs and stickers …works for me, would have liked to see more options, but there wasn’t a lot of people there to support much more.

Beer? Nope :x …that took a ¼ mile walk to the bar…$2 drafts thought…<thumbs up> :D

Oh, when I was having a beer (noon’ish) at the Destination Daytona pub on the other side of the complex…I saw VW’s driving around aimlessly ….there was 1 sign on the main road ..after that you were on your own….the location was WAY out back…but no WJ signs to help find your way to it…I must helped at least 10 cars while I had my beer get back on track and point them to where the Motorsports Zone was. I realize your not going back to DD, but understand that place is HUGE …better signage next time please.

Went back to The Myan to clean up and recharge, then back out to DD at 7:15…maybe waited (idled) a total of 15 mins to get up to pavilion where we were asked for $5…oh, so now they want the $5…no worries, 5 bucks for a BBQ party is nothing …music starts, SUPPER way to LOUD ..boooo coudnt have a conversation in the pavilion, had to go hang outside with the people that didn’t have (ie want) to pay the $5. Oh, well, at least there is food! …or wait, oh…we ask an official looking person to point us toward the BBQ …they say there is no BBQ …Un-f’ing believable …I would have friggin eaten before I showed up.. *&@!#% http://www.daytonawinterjam.com/barbcruise

“Party with Food & Live Entertainment” “7-12” ….I thought $5 was too good to be true …the website was very misleading …So we walked all the way over to the McCurdes or whatever it was and had dinner and repaired our hearing …when we went back at 9:30, things where breaking down and people were leaving …no people, no “party” …positive side, saw some nice Dubs …oh and the girls bartending at the pavilion where cute ;)

Sat morning, walked from hotel to bandshell and saw a ton of very nice rides. I think I looked at and in every single bus ….very cool show and venue…love how vacationers that were walking around could just walk up to the buses….made for a great crowd.

Left the buses and went back to hotel to prep my car for the DubJam Expo outside the convention hall down the road. Conventional hall takes up like 2 city blocks surrounded by 4 roads…once again no signs that say DubJam Expo cars enter here or go here …only a generic sign that read Entrance near a garage door used for entering inside the center. That’s where the competition cars where going to be displayed….i was “expo” / “outside” and knew not to go in there as I did NOT register for that. So around and around I drove looking for VW’s staged on some grass or back lot or something….nothing….finally drove to the inside entrance and learned ALL the cars are going inside …not a big deal to me. I read and re read several times the DubJam (DJ) website and knew very well that the cars were expected to be staged for the entire public show of 3pm to 9pm whether inside or out. At this inside entrance location I was told my passenger ( 1 not clown stuffed) had to get out and walk all the way around the building and pay for a ticket to get in. My 68 yr old aircooled fanatic father got out and met me inside. He had to pay $17 even though he was a participant. These discounts below, copied from the DM site never existed:
Pre-registered participants receive the following perks:
Save $10 on DubJam H2O Exhibition Entry
Save $10 on Volks Jamboree Exhibition Entry
Save $15 on Spectator Ticket Fee (DubJam & SbamJam)
Save $5 on Free DubJam Event Sticker
Save $5 on Free Charity Raffle Ticket
Save $5 on the Parking Garage

“Save $15 on Spectator Ticket Fee” NOT! [-X

LOL…I had fun, brought a cooler…looked at cars, drank beer, chilled, watched some kids skate….went to oldspeed experience ..didnt get it, but who cares…walked over to bandshell, went to wing house, drank beer, lost some hearing from stupid house music for 7 hours….got flashed (ecu not boobies) ;)

Additional website info inconsistency: “Inside cars must not have more then 2 gallons of gas and must disconnect batteries” I understand the safety reason, but nobody checked this...who wrote the website.. :?

After uncomfortable awards ….rolled out , excited to go to big hyped up afterparty at the ocean deck ….which was 13 feet from my hotel room ….got there, was charged $5 to get in..it sucked arse, left and went to NorthTurn a real auto enthusiast bar. The bummer was I envisioned a VW crowd ONLY party for the participants of the WinterJam/DubJam …it was no such event.

Sunday headed over to Jamboree…was touted online as a “Aircooled VW Volkstravaganza”
Would have registered for this had I known they were letting in H20 …oh well, had a blast walking around the lake checking out the cars with beer in hand…what an awesome location.

Good times …I’ll go to the next one if they have it…just wont believe what I read ahead of time on the promotion is all…

Cheers!
