Well, the 57' was rusty. I don't know if it was worse or better, I think it just had different problems. I should start with better projects.

Not a whole lot of metal left after removing the rusted out areas :shock: Hope all the replacement metal goes in without a hitch, good to see yet another one saved.

Gulp! :shock: I had no idea that thing was THAT bad. But one thing I do know... It's that you are certainly the man for the job! I am not in the least bit surprised you've tackled a project like this and taking restoration to the next level. Keep on keepin' on. Hope everyone else is taking notes.

Loaded up the chassis today and took it over to my good buddy's powdercoating shop. He was kind enough to set me up with his sandblast booth. Thanks Jim! I still have sand in my shoes.

And of course, the cleaned chassis revealed even more welding to do. What a surprise... :lol:

Glad to see you used the"beater" shop truck to haul the frame. :lol:

Frame rust...just what every bus owner wants to see. What's a bit more welding when you're into it this deep right?

your blast job looks great...its hard to get them that clean and be patient about it.

did the bus have any sunroof material left on it?showing what color the canvas was.i also have a 58 sunroof kombi and am running a black cover but was never able to locate a blue one wich i beleive to be correct?

Got a bit of work done on the chassis this weekend. Just waiting on some Gerson frame rails etc, that seem to be stuck at the airport. :evil:

This may not look like like much in the photos, but I got both cross members, 3 outriggers, the heater tube and 2 top hats welded in. I'm also changing out all the guide tubes for the cables, as they all have problems.

I'm hoping to have the chassis done by next weekend, and if all goes well, start with mating the chassis back to what is left of the body.

I just bought a '67 912 with rusty pans and that is it and there were some 912 guys saying I should pass on it or part it out. They would crap bricks if they saw what you are doing. Keep it up!

Frame rails in. Four of the six outriggers are in, as are the jack points. I test fitted the belly pans, and they were perfect, a good sign the chassis is all lined up. I was hoping to have the chassis back under the body by this weekend, but I think I'll hold off until next friday, as my good friend is coming from out of town to lend me a hand for a day or two. His metalwork is second to none, and I can only learn from his expertise. Plus it's taking forever to replace the guide tubes for the cables, and I want to make sure they are done before they go back together.

I should mention that the replacement panels are, of course, coming from Gerson at Klassicfab. I can't say enough about what he and his crew can do. None of my recent bus projects would have been completed without his panels and advice.
