| I have an 1835 in my rail that I bought from someone; it has a T3 turbo with no oil sump added. Should I leave it as is or should I add a sump for that extra oil while riding around the dunes? The case is not full flow but it does have an external cooler and filter. Not sure what to do and dune seasons right around the corner. Can someone give some input? :?: |

Definately deep sump You don't know how many calls I get from poor guys who were goin up a long hill full rpm and had the oil light (if they have one......Thats another hot topic) come on 3/4 the way up and once they get to the top of the hill (if they make it without siezing) and sit for a sec the light goes off. Of course if you don't have a light this will be repeated a couple time without your knowledge and the engine gets wrecked and it's "the shitty air cooled" engines fault.
These engines only carry 2.5 qts of oil stock. Just not enough when subjected to high RPM and extreme angles.
With a 3.5 qt "bolt on deep sum you more than double the capacity and it is baffled so it will stay in the sump under extreme angles.
My buddies and I (all air cooled VW) have hundreds of hours on the dunes alone without a failure mainly because we all have deep sumps and we all have oil warning lights!
So Yes deep sump and oil warning light.

| A sump is lowering the amount of ground clearance you have, so if you have ever hit the skid plate, then I would say dont do it. Adding a remote filter and cooler will also add capacity and will help prevent starvation issues |

a remote filter & cooler will add oil capacity but it will not add the amount of available oil to the motor.
for sand & off roading I check my oil level just after shutting down the motor and make sure its fully topped off each time I go out. |

Dry sump it.
No extra stuff hanging down to hit on obstacles.
Constant oil supply unless you are upside down.
CB Performance systems work well. |

My group all run 3.5 quart sumps on our auto cross race motors.... I also have large sump on my "street" dune buggy....
IF you have to ask, then you probably need one....
