The pump on the left is a later Type 3 pump.
Type 3 fuel pumps have different springs in them, and run a little higher pressure.

Blast. I have only two rebuildable units
One is probably bus or bug both inlet and outlet come out parallel its a Pierburg unit made in Germany (VW21164)
The one I may be able to use is a Brazilian unit it closely resembles the one in the middle but without the rectangular plate on the front.
The current non rebuildable unit in the car has both inlet and outlet one above the other and appear to be the same angle as the intake on the genuine unit.
Even so, are the rebuild kits all the same? And what about the shaft? I have a long and a short one but half recall that there were three lengths
I appreciate the help guys, While I am doing it cheap I still want it to be correct in the areas that matter
I have the black mirrors on the 72 so at this stage do not need any lol. I promise I will buy something from you soon mike :) |

Well she has been running on and off for a few months now. Mostly carb issues. Parts too warn out methinks. I keep thinking it would be nice to go stock fuel injection but it would have to wait till later in the year. I have removed one of the rear guards on the 72 donor car as the ones on the 73 seem to be bowed out a bit and are not sealing in the fresh air. Possibly it's had a rear shunt repaired but it all looks cool in the engine bay apart from slight cracks at the engine mounts. The painters at work said as long as I fit in with them I can start getting the rust repaired and paint done. They have been busy with trains, helicopters and a plane. Work will slow down on her for the next few months as it's just too hot.
How would one go about repairing a cracked dash? I thought of filing the cracks flush with the main body, using some sort of filler then covering with a flexible fabric. Main reason for this is I know the pattern on the vinyl will be gone where the repairs are. It's RHD so the reproductions are no good for me |

His wife made that for him. Doubt if you could get her to make another. |

| Just a quick question about heater boxes. The car has one with the padding and one without. The one without has a tinny clicking noise. I ma assuming that there is a leak inside and the noise is being amplified by the tin. I had two spares that were donated out of a chicken shed. I took the padding off carefully so I could reuse the clips. One was so rusted out I won't even attempt to fix it. The other has a few spots where the rust has left pinholes in the outer tin. In a perfect would I could solder or braze them but unfortunately I don't have access to the equipment. Would JB weld work or is there a better way to seal them. The box is now mostly clean shiny metal ready for paint |

Don't know how well JB weld would hold up to heat. Those heater boxes do get extremely hot at highway speeds.
They are still an exhaust manifold. |

POR-15 makes a manifold repair kit. |

I would love to, but POR15 is VERY hard to get here and when you can it's massively expensive
OK I jumped the gun. I had a look and we now have a reseller about 70kms away. Your talking about Fireseal 2000? It's $40 a tube |

| The steering shaft on my 73 has 40 splines, is this the same as the earlier steering wheels (71-72). It's come to the point where I have to put on the nice thick wheel I have had sitting for a few years. Fingers are getting too cramped up over the time it takes to drive to/from work. I need to know so I can get the correct hub |

Just a quick question. I am not ready for a full front end overhaul just yet as I still need to save for and find a few parts. However the steering box is leaking a thin yellowish grease from the downward pointing shaft. It is coming out quite a lot. I have a brand new steering box to go in. Can I just swap them over? I know to centre the steering wheel to the steering box and have read that I should also centre the tie rods to the box. I can't afford a wheel alignment just yet as they are over $50 here and lets just say the wife's bloody dog has cost us a mint in vet fees so all my money has been spent on it. Is there an easy fix that will minimise the damage to the box and tyres for the short (2-3 week) term?
Just found this

Anyone have any more details or advice on this procedure? |
