Yes, I know, it can't go off-road. Now that we have that out of the way, I have a simple question. I have a Super Baja kit from Mark V and in the instructions it shows how to cut the rear. It talks about removing the hood and front fenders, but nothing about cutting it. Does this mean there is no cutting the front to fit the Super kit? Is that why the kit is for Supers? I figure it must be so that the strut towers are not compromised. Anyone with experience, I sure would appreciate some input.

Did not cut my '73 super to put the front clip on.

Does it connect over the existing front clip? Did you use the Mark V kit?

It was 1985, so I do not remember the kit manufacture. It went on over the existing front apron.

Thanks. It has to have something to do with the shock towers I would assume. At any rate, sounds easier than having to cut the front.

Same here--remove the hood and fenders and bolt the fiberglass on over the rest of the sheet metal.
I had a '73, don't know the kit manufacturer but I eventually trimmed back the louvers and then later cut some of the fiberglass back too, being careful to keep the "tub" intact, trying to make it look better. But the suspension on them is pretty ugly, too--I should have just left the fiberglass "nose" in place.
Not the best pic, but shows a little--you can see just the corner of the nose where the latches bolt to:

Mine was a Mark V kit, fit so well barely any trimming; unless you count my shaving the fenders down.
Other thing I did was laminate my rear cowl into the car as well as laminating the nose cone in as well.
Here are some shots during the build:
And one about 90% done:

Looks great. You guys have given me some peace of mind. Kit gets installed next week. Picked up a brand new Mark V Super kit, no drilling or primer, for $350. For tires, 29x10.50 Super Swamper TRXUS on the rear and 215x75 General Grabber AT2's on the front. As for the engine, too much to list! Oh, and this will be a pink and black baja. Don't see that combo every day! Code name: The Pink Pirate

Just keep in mind that NOBODY makes a front Baja style bumper for a Super...you'll need to either custom bend one or do some serious mods to anything you can get your hands on.

We are fabricating one. Cheaper than ordering one and paying shipping, and then having to modify it anyway. I may go with square tubing. Should be fairly simple. |
