I am trying something a little different. Should be a very cool ride. Let me know what you think. I hope to have it all finished by the end of the year. Thanks

This one is what the car looked like two years ago at the Eureka Springs AR Bug Show. It has been setting for about a year now waiting on a new engine. Now it is gonna be totally gone through. I will take pics and post as much as possible. Thanks again for your input.

now that is a rare choice of powerplant. good one tho! gonna need a STRONG tranny.

x2 - what are your tranny ideas? Did you have to make custom mounts for it?

I use to run a shop that built turbo kits for the SR20 power plants.

Very capable motors, especially the DET engines (red top/bluebirds).

What are your plans for engine management? We use to run the factory ECU with Greddy E-Manage - putting anywhere from 3-500rwhp on a dynojet ( Jim Wolfe cams, forged internals, etc.

Subscribed to this thread - I may have to try this with an up coming Manx project.

i had a freeway flyer tranny that is supposed to have good gears. was great with mild vw engine. hope it lasts. i haave an engine adapter from kennedy products with stock ecu. intercooler is 27x6x2.5 and 2.5 aluminum piping. i figured i would keep the engine stock as its an easy 200 hp. i will post some more pics tomorrow.

How much did the adapter kit cost? Did that include engine mounts? What's your plan for a cooling system?

The adapter kit cost me 468$ shipped to my door. mounts for the engine i will have to make. It bolts to the transaxle and i will come from my rear bars and build a little mount to just help support the engine. Kennedy Products has adapters for about any engine combination you can imagine.

Nice choice of engine! It will surely make your baja powerful enough to bring fun and excitement.

That type1 trans should last for a little while, but I would start looking now for a good deal on an 091, and even it won't last through 200hp if you aren't easy on it.

ya i am looking for a good deal on a trans. hope to maybe find one on here

So I was driving home tonight, and had a thought.

I follow the Factory Five GTM's daily, and they are running the newer Porche g20 transaxle. Aside from price and a bit of fab, what's to say a newer/stronger t/a can't be used?

here is some more pics. sorry it took so long. I moved.

I'm putting a Honda 3.5 V6 in my Baja and I spoke with Don from Don's Bus Box on the phone about transmission choices. I currently have a 3 rib bus box and he wants me to use a 6 rib bus box with Weddle race gears. Even with all the trick parts it's only good for 300hp reliably and costs $3200. People do put more through them, but it's risky. For over 300hp you are talking Mendeola, which is $5k-$8k for a darn transmission. Even used Porche transmissions are $4k+ and they are only good to around 400hp-450hp. So in the end it comes down to the age old question: Speed costs money. How fast you wanna go?
