Yep, new plugs too. I finished this at 1am alone so I could not verify spark yet.
I'll be out of state for another week... when I get back I will do that.

I'm just up the hill from you and could lend a hand. I have tools, spare carbs, distributors, coils, etc. you could throw on and try out. PM me if you like.

Also, check out this forum:

Kinda quiet, but good local people willing to help out.

SHE STARTED!!!! Thanks to all the help that PC Kyle 75 did!!! It was so fun seeing her start know she had not for over 3 years!

PC Kyle knew I had a missing connection in my circuit... no "dummy lights" come on the dash. After fixing this and grounding the generator... all started to look bright!

About 3 hours later I blew her up again... Needs a new ignition (mine was bad) and starter (I blew that up due to the bad ignition).

The battery slid and shorted inside the bug sending sparks and smoke flying, blew most the fuses. It was very exciting!

When I went to pull the battery our the floor fell off... I need to get new tires and then off to have a new floor put on.

FUN! Thanks for all the help guys!

ok, after scouring so many threads about no start conditions, this is where i am. i have no dummy lights and no power to the dizzy. i was thinking my electronic ignition migt be bad but i really want to know where you found the missing connection in the circuit as i think that is my problem also. i know i am close, but just can't quite figure this one out. please let me know where you found your problem. thanks.

We used an alagator clip to ground the wire to the generator

hes right get a bosch coil online if you can from a reliable website i like getting mine from wolfsburgwest or see if you can find a local aircooled vw shop

also switch the cond. out

and if you dont have a timing light get one for about the same price these mechanics will charge you only the difference is youll have the tool for many uses.

(setting the timing is easy if you have no idea on mechanics buy yourself a haynes manual for the beetle or anyother book people suggest)
