View original topic: Rail buggy wiring...

Completely rewiring the buggy this winter. New gauges, switches, indicators, fuse blocks...the whole 9 yards.

I've created my own wiring diagram and will be going at this without using the store bought wiring harnesses.

My question is...where you guys buying your wire? Anybody find any decent internet deals? I'm needing the normal sizes 10ga, 12ga and 16ga. Also like to use some multi-stranded wire two circuits are required, i.e. dual element lights.

Thanks, Toby

Is this automotive type wire?

I ask because automotive/marine wiring typically has a higher strand (copper) count than "standard electrical" wiring you get at places like Home Depot...giving significanlty more flexability.

The lower stand count/stiffer wire will not work for my application.

I bought all my wiring from O'Reily's in Arnold. The majority of my rail is 14 I think with a bit of 12 and 16. Shouldn't cost you much. You can either buy it in spools or by the foot.

I did all of my wiring with no diagram. It's very overwhelming at first but, fairly easy once you get into it. If you have any questions, just ask. I did this less than a month ago..

Is this automotive type wire? Thank, Toby Yes its meant for auto. I know the stiffer stuff you are talking about at Home Depot.

Thanks for the tip...I'll check out Oreilly's.

Overwhelming...I know what your talking about. I started looking at all the stock VW wiring diagrams posted here then I just made my own. Now that I've created my own diagram...I've basically wired this thing in my head 100 x's and have no worries.

With so many ways to "skin a cat" making my own wiring diagram has allowed me to look at things and change things to eliminate uneeded/excess wiring runs.

Where in Arnold you located?

Toby

You will find if you order wire in bulk and order at least a 1/2 dozen different colors it will be cheaper from bulk sales places like DEL CITY and WAYTEK and it will be better quality than you find on most of those blister packs on FLAPS shelves....

Same thing with connectors and ty-wrap (zip ties) and other supplies.....
