unless it was on non-op of coarse.
No such thing as 23 years of back fees in California. The car falls "off the computer" after 6-8 years of non-activity in California state computer systems. Once the car is "off the computer" there are NO back fees due!!
And you lose the black plates, you get your nice shiney new ones in the mail once you re-register the car
Please correct me if I am wrong. OK, you get the new registration and new CA plates. Then you order personalized CA plates with the letters and numbers of the black plates. Then you get the new CA personalized plates and put on the old black plates. Will this still work ?? |

| Someone posted in another "California Plate" thread that the DMV caught on to that trick and it can no longer be done? |

He had a friend from church who had a body shop and storage room. No official arrangement was made, just a gentelman's agreement to store the car and repair some rust. Over time the two lost contact with each other and the shop closed. Long story...short. I returned home several years later and got back into the VW scene with my kids. We purchased a 63 Bug and joined a club. Well...last year at a local show an old friend from back in the 80's saw me and asked what ever happened to my Oval. I told him the story and he went on. About 20 minutes later he returned and stated "I can't not tell you this...I know where it is and it's still in your name" He and others had been trying to buy it over the years but couldn't. The next day I found it. 3 blocks from my house, buried in a warehouse covered in dust...with most of the body work done....It's now in my driveway :D
That is awesome!! Regretfully sold my 57 last year due to a crappy financial situation, regreted it every day since. This gives me hope.... |

| Maybe his father put him in storage, and will be found by his own son in about 23 years, covered with fairy dust. |
