| Will the rag coupler bend enough to handle a 3" body lift, or do I need to go u-joint? |

When I installed my 3 inch lift I had a urethane (sp) couper I kept an eye on it as I raised the steering shaft and it did deform a bit, but it has worked fine for a long time now without any problems.
I know you asked about the stock one but just for the info, the urethane one works fine with the 3 inch lift, assuming we have close to the same year and stock steering setup.

| I used the standard coupler but i needed to use two of them to make it all fit right. |

I had to make my own steering shaft for my 68. I cut off the collapsable area and welded on one of the spline shafts from Chirco. Also chopped off the end of the short shaft at the coupler on the steering box and welded on the same type spline shaft. Then I bought a couple heavy duty U-joints (matching splines) from Chirco and welded those to a new shaft.
Some one told me to try a SB steering shaft with the U-joints but didn't work for me so I made my own.
I did all this to keep the steering wheel assembly in the stock position and mounts and I wanted to keep the coupler in the system. |
