ok my first problem is i just put 3 of those checker hid lights on my bug and when i run them it kills my battery but if im just driving in town with them off im fine so i was wondering if this had something to do with the voltage regulator or if its just using to much power for the generator. second i have a 1835 should i use dual 40 or 44 carbs

check the amperage use of the lights. if your lights use more amperage than your generator puts out plus your other lights and ignition yes the battery wil die. sounds likeyou need to swap to an alternator with 75 or more amp output.

Those Kragen/Checker HIDs draw about 3-3.5 amps each, so I'm guessing it's way too much of a draw for your generator. I plan on running two of those lights, but I upgraded to a bus generator that puts out 38 amps instead of 30.

I would definatley check your charging system, but the 9 amps those Hid's use shouldnt' kill your battery over short times. I had my 4 lights on with the engine off for close to 25 minutes without problems. My battery is good though. A good battery should be able to sustain those lights for quite awhile. Just a thought.
