Bought the 6 point Empi cage for our 65 baja and both the front hoop and middle hoop are too wide. Can't tell right now but they also seem a bit too tall. Has anyone run into this problem? Doesn't seem like we should have to modify it to get it in. Any thoughts?

I didn't have any issues with height, but the rear legs did take a bit of trimming at the top to get them to align right. Definitely not a perfect fit out of the box, but with a bit of work it went in pretty well. I do remember squeezing in the front legs just a tad to get them to sit flat...

Most of the kits are also set to fit with a 3 inch body lift so you may have to trim the ends off also.

Would anyone be willing to measure their front and middle hoops from outside to outside of each hoop. I really think we got a jacked up cage.

doesn't Empi translate to "some fit adjustment may be required" ?

My 6 point didnt seem to fit right either. On the front and middle hoop I used a ratchet strap to pull the ends in enough to sit the end plates down in the pan. I would also cut out the rear heater ports, it will give you a little more room to move the rear hoop back if needed.

I bought mine used and saw it had a chunk added in the middle of the bottom horizontal. Mine has no headliner, but just about scrapes the roof. I just use it as a starting point to build my cage.

We had to use straps to bring our hoops in enough so they would fit too. The back sections are going to require some cutting as they seem to be a good two inches too long. I think we're going to remove the headliner.
I know this is an EMPI product so I shouldn't expect much but I'm surprised at what a pain in the butt it is to install a bolt in cage that was made specifically for this car. |

i just installed this cage on friday in my 1970. it went in fairly easily, the hardest part was figuring out how to slide the front hoop in through the door. I also had to tie ropes to the back bars and twist a screw driver in them to get them to seat properly. It took a bit of banging and twisting and pushing to get it in but we got it in about 4 hours not including stripping the interior.
