I have a 1835 in my bug and I have a single 32pict carb and want to go to dual carbs should I get 40s or 44s.

avalonbug Sun Oct 18, 2009 11:28 am

40's

hendersoned Sun Oct 18, 2009 3:08 pm

what are you doing with the old carb?

sturgeongeneral Sun Oct 18, 2009 7:24 pm

Go with the 40s. 44s will be over carbed.

az71baja Sun Oct 18, 2009 7:27 pm

Yeah that's what I was thinking but a buddy on mine is going to give me a set but I don't know if there 40 or 44 is there in way to tune down the 44.

You could go with a single 40 or 44, I know people that runa single 44 on a 2276 and the thing runs like a bat out of hell. Then you don't have to worry about synching the carbs. And the rest of the off road tuning that some offroaders don't like about duals.

So your saying if I run a single 44 it will run just as good as dual 40s.

QRP Sun Oct 18, 2009 7:50 pm

you can get a single to run good but it takes a little work,

if you are new to the carb world you will find it easier to set up duals.

44s can be made to work but with an 1835 the 40s will be more out of the box ready.

what are the specs of your motor ?

that 1835 will run like a demon with a single 40 or 44. Duals are P.I.T.A. IMHO

I just went through this issue this summer on my 1835 w/ dual 44's, had enough fun f'ing with them after every trip. So I donated the second carb to a friend, bought a single weber manifold, and havent looked back since. Now that same 44 is on my 2275 and runs like a striped azz ape. I wont waste my money on duals ever again. just my .02 Good luck with your project

az71baja Sun Oct 18, 2009 8:12 pm

Call me stupid but p.I.t.a? Imho?

baja5 Sun Oct 18, 2009 8:15 pm

Pita, pain in the ass, IMHO= in my humble opinion, I think

avalonbug Sun Oct 18, 2009 8:16 pm

lol exactly....

az71baja Sun Oct 18, 2009 8:18 pm

Thank you haha. Yeah I mean a single carb would be a lot cheaper I just didn't think you would get the same power out of them but anthings got to be better then what I got now.

QRP Sun Oct 18, 2009 8:24 pm

I agree that a single can be made to run great, I run a single 40 on a 2165cc and I love it.

and it wasnt as easy as sticking one from a set of duals on a single intake and away you go.

duals are not that hard to tune if they are in good shape and you have good linkage, I just like the simplicity and reliability of the single weber.

baja5 Sun Oct 18, 2009 8:24 pm

You would be supprised at the power you can get out of a single carb. And you don't have to mess with the throttle bar and making sure it is right. On Bigger motors I would definatley recommend duals but it may be overkill on what you have. Not that you couldn't make it work, it's just a question of whether the cost is worth the gain.

true true, for me it took one phone call to carcraft and about $50.00 in jets and new venturi's to make it run

well thanks for all the good input guys i appreciate it

40s will be fine but in the future if you get a bigger motor 44s will be better.

Running a 2275 with dual 44s. on my buggy.I dont know why many say they are hard to keep tuned.I just set mine up for my new motor and have them dialed in.They were on my old 1914 and in 2 seasons of duning i never had to resync them,Idles only plugged once in that time no big deal that can happen with a single too.

After battling problems with a pair a Weber 40IDFs, I just "downgraded" to a single Zenith 32NDIX on my 2110cc engine.

Just got it started tonight. It should prove to be reliable and trouble-free.

Well it hasn't been said yet, so I'll say it. If you are looking for a good trail and offroad reliable rig at slower speeds and all kinds of crazy angles then the big single two barrel is your best choice, period. However if you wanna do the wide open throttle happy dance and get everything available to you, then the duals are a better way to go. I run a sand only rail, and my dual baby webers will upgrade to dual 44 IDF's this week. Just waiting on the last of my parts order.
