I am going to start digging into the sink, stove, refrigerator, and holding tank in my 77 this week. Addtionally I am thinking it would be wise to have the propane tank re cetertified. I can tell I will at minimum need to replace the sink water lines, they are gross. I havent seen how the stove works if it does, Its a coleman, and the previous owner stated the fridge does not work at all so I will most likely have to replace the fridge. There is also a weird looking heater thing(secons pic) in the closet behind the sink. Ive attached some pics of my set up.

Has any one restored these items, I will gladly accept any tips :P.

Thanks in advance.

The reason the fridge doesn't work is because it's an icebox, any knobs or controls visible along the bottom when the door is open?

That heater looks hooped, if the screw cap with the mica window has rotted off I doubt the rest is in any better shape, there's modern small RV furnaces with nice features like electronic ignition that you can replace it with.

That makes sense. There are no controls, just a fan in the door with an aluminum grill behind it on the inside.

Ahhh..... after a closer look I see someone has hacked in the guts from an 12V electric cooler on the door, better than nothing I suppose :?

i think it's asi Rivera, just my 2cents

I have what looks like that same seat/bed (diff fabric though). The guy I bought it from said it was from a Riviera.

yeah the bed and cabinets look to be Rivera but the fridge in there makes me think it's an asi conversion as well.

No clue would love to know though. its a 1977.

well the pop top goes straight up right? so that's a rivi, beds a full width and the color of wood and flip down style of the front piece of the bed makes that a rivi as well.

i can't decide on the sink and stove unit as both rivi and asi had those styles of tall cabinet and sink combo and stove ice chest combo as well, those 2 items will determine if it's a asi/rivi or just a rivi.

if i'm remembering all of this correctly.

the interior of my van has the same layout. You can get more pics in its thread herehttp://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=4101586#4101586 I never knew there wasa diff between the asi and rivi. I guess you learn new things every day

Yes its pretty much the same the fridge/icebox is a mobilaire model tss-9. It has a dial inside the door for coldness so I am thinking its possible that is a fridge but not 100%. I am thinking of having my freind that does cabinets redo all the cabinets to the same specs, while im doing the hard wood floors, and then just take it to camping world and have them out fit it with a new stove fridge and furnace. I am prety sure I can slavage the sink and the two faucets plus the pump and potable water tank. At the same time I can have them re certify the under side propoane and maybe add a splitter so that I can hook up regular propane tanks too.

has any one done this?

I will research riviera conversions as well, the top does go straight up.

Is yours a 77 wakka? your looks exactly the same as mine right down to the door panels.

Now there's an idea that you'll regret, imagine these guys with sawzalls and drills eyeing up your crappy old VW.

My bus is a '75. It's for the most part the same. Mine doesnt have the reading light on the rear drivers side by the fold up table.

Sinks and Stoves...

Remember when camping at a motel...Always unhook the fire alarm BEFORE you light the stove. ;)

it is most definatly a fridge! - my riv has the same one. Make sure it is wired up to 12v (aux battery). It will drain your battery relatively quickly as it pulls 5.5amps according to the sticker on the back.
