I am looking at a project bug with a 20l aircooled motor. Will I be able to run 31" tires in the rear with decent top end? Gbox is standard 1600 type.

You would be better off installing an 091 bus trans. The 2.0L engines were attached to the 091 trannies and they use a 228mm clutch.

I run 31" tires with a T-IV 2.0L engine and a VW Thing(trekker) gearbox (4:12 R&P) and have just fine highway speeds @70mph.

I will be beefing up to a 5rib trans in the future though

That looks very cool.

The way you use your Baja to actually work, not just play, I can see the reason for the extra lights on the car.

Im running a built type 4 2.0l behind a stock 74 bug tranny which i believe has stock 3.88 gears...Im running a 215mm clutch and flywheel, and my tires are 31's. I can do 70 to 80 but ive got to push my car a bit to get it there, as soon as I can rebuild my bus 5 rib its goin in!
