after some research i found out the bed is a true zbed not a knock off. the frame on the lower seat is bent pretty badly. it needs to be recovered before being put back in, for now im just going to throw a large mat on the floor and rear deck with a bit of new particle board. trimmed off the crinkled/ separated rear deck side trim panel. the head liner has holes but seems to have kinda survived somehow. i pulled off the purple seat covers and found carpet under mat piled 6 high and red shop rags used for the padding in them. lol. it is quite a bit more comfortable now even just sitting on one peice of pad the springs.
ps im looking for a dirt cheap 009 or 050 distributor neighbor gave me a brand new compu-fire for free!!! it just wont fit in my dist. |

Hey Combatbus,
I have been lurking on this thread 'til now. How about a pic of that z-bed. I have only seen the westy beds that everyone calls z-beds. I would sure like a look at that. Nice bus by the way. Good luck finding one you can make over the way you wanted. I agree that ones too nice to thrash. Rock on.

If you want quality, Sewfine has by far the best.
Curtain rod sounds like stock Westy. Full length on the pass side? Is the bottom one a plastic covered spring? |

no sweat. just send me the 205Q.
i got to say though--
if you want true offroad action in a bus you NEED to go LSD. and...
i think mine handles better at stock height as opposed to lifted.
it's alot less bouncy!
27's will give you more than enough height to get stuck. |

| i will post alot of pics here pretty soon im outta town for thx givin' and then a wedding in reno so it will prolly be on the 3rd or 4th next week. this bus was meant to be a transporter style bus(alot of seating) from what i have read but it seems like they took it at the dealer or the port and did extensive stock VW camperizing. yes the rods on top go all the way from behind the front seats to the rear glass with whiteish knobs at the junction points and at the bottom is a strong thick covered "cable". i shall also update my build intentions when i get back because alot of ideas have been changed or adjusted. oh yeah btw tires should be on next week as well will def post pics. |

| i would get 29s before a lsd, but if yo ucan afford an lsd time frame probably doesn't matter much. I am looking for a cheap locker to play with, but it is unlikely to turn up. if you pull the ebrake real hard it works like an lsd actually. |

| you can devise split levers for the e-brake. It wouldn't be too hard to build a handle to actuate each wheel individually. |

very true, and I plan to do this on a rail buggy as I don't really have the 1.6K in parts it takes to do the LSD upgrade, plus my time to install. However even then simply pulling the normal e-brake helps a lot more than you would think. |

What about a hydraulic turning brake? You can get a single lever that will rock in both directions to apply the brake on the wheel that is not turning or is up in the air to force the other wheel to rotate.
KevinMc uses one in his backroad splitty. |

| i would be afraid of accidently hitting the turning break to hard. those things are for sand play.would make it hard to control the car as well. |

ok i have my bus up and in decent running condition with a fresh 1600dp and 009 with compu-fire (thx to my neighbor who gave it to me for free brand new). the stock 34pict-3 is just not cutting it ,i think the idle circuit has some blockage and i cant clear it out(yes it was fully dunked and rebuilt but no new jets i think air bled jet is getting stuck and main might have micro crack in it) i have my baby dells and the second one is in the carb dunk as of 20 min ago the first one came out beautifully a light golden hue to the exterior. the new tires 27/8.50-14's http://www.gripston.com/products/maxxis-mt-762-bighorn are on ( they look sick)and phat boy muffler and header (i love the sound of it not too loud but is throaty).
i still plan on making an awesome rack with fold away light bar and overall uberness. i need to get back into my garage and pull out my welder. im not going to paint it as the blue and white have grown on me and it is decent paint, just needs some lovin'. no plans to get the granny gear as i didnt remeber the frist gear being as low as it is. but still looking into a 2110 or 2007. im actually having a tough time tring to decide between the two engines as both are excellent. im going to toss some outdoor carpet in the cargo bay and up to the rear deck and a new composite board with it glued on to it. just until i get the z bed and seating worked out. |

I came into this thread expecting something different. Where's the armor and weapons systems? I guess the only thing I should add would be that you should get rid of that 009 and drop in an 019 or an 010 dizzy. That 009 will make a great look alike stick grenade for a... well maybe you get the idea.
I was suprised to hear you mention the 050. In my opinion a fine distributer for the T-1 engine despite what one of the guru's here might tell you. For hill climbing it gives great low end power with no flat spot as you wind out. I love mine and moved the 010 to the bug with great results as well.
Let me know if you want to talk armor and or wepons systems? |

the weapons system and ground assualt systems are TOP SECRET sorry. i just post the stuff i think you vw heads might like even thou some of you may want to see my dillon mini gun  if i showed it to you id have to kill you......ive said too much already. mmwwwhahahehhehehehahhahaaaaaa!!!
as of the 009 it was simply to replace the dvda because it as trashed and advances didnt work. it is in bad shape and the 009 and compufire where free so....in they went. im going to go with either an svda hot spark unit or a pertronix ignitor 2 billet, im tring to decide between the two right now. input on that anyone?
oh yeah i have a brand new mallory 6AL in the garage with a promaster coil, think i should use it on this little bus? |
