well its a monthly showing of local VW's so they clear out the front like every dealership should if they support the "crap" they sell. its ok if you dont like my bus, but didnt your parents teach you if you dont have anything nice to say dont say anything at all.

no no no your not getting what i was saying, nothing wrong with your bus at all my friend, yours most likely will be nicer than mine someday, i was just saying the one time i dared to take my bus to a dealer to ask about parts (early days of bus ownership) they asked me if i could remove my pile from their lot as the yuppies where becoming on edge and were fearing being preyed upon by a vw bus owning freak...lol if you get my gist, trust me if you read some of my posts i'm the last person who will criticize someone for their bus or their decisions on it, lol

keep rocking it man, it's coming along nicely ;-)

Which dealer? Campbell-Nelson? Carter (Ballard)? Freeway (University)? Never had any trouble at any of those, even with the ratty '66 Square. Only went when BowWow said "dealer only" or I needed a used part from C-N. It has been ten years since I moved, though.

CombatBus wrote: my bad thought you didnt like it or something. i was like i thought he did wth?! doesnt your dealer have a monthly show? i though atleast one dealer in every city did it.

not that i know of, they pretty much eyed me off the lot in my first 5 mins there....seriously it was the only time i felt like someone crapped on my
"vw love" it was even worse coming from a dealer, meh, forget about it buddy it was half a year ago and i still have a hair up my**** becuase of it... lol

i'll have to check into that, i mostly just roll with teh local clubs never heard of dealers doing monthly shows, but then again that's seattle for you, we're nice people but freak out when strangers start a normal conversation with you...maybe socially awkard would be a better way of putting it, so maybe that's why no monthly shows at dealers...social awkwardness... lol

so have you given any thought about installing some of these things in the combat bus?

http://www.flir.com/cvs/americas/en/aviation/products/starsafireiii/

and maybe a fly-by-optics system to help drive in heavy winds? lol

combat the new tires are nice! looks tough even without any lift. started removal of T4 1700 from bus. really miss removable lower valance on early busses. can see why some would go to the trouble of making it removable. still planning to notch the spring plates and spacing front end down to match. anyway we were just in vegas for a week and went to apex/nellis for the first time. lots of varied terrain from dunes to rocky trails even some mud (just rained). next year BUS TIME!
here are a couple of pics, girlfriend stuck on a dune!

yes that is the Las Vegas Strip in the background.

really cool wash!

MAN you live in an offroad paradise!
Ill start a build thread as soon as we get some pics.

picked up a decent cargo area mat at the yunkyard for 10 bucks. wewt. also got a better rear veiw mirror(no sun damage) and proper vw lug nuts to replace the after market weird ones i got. there where a few stray seat hold downs with nuts and bolts too.

if anyone needs any bay panel parts there is one in a junkyard near me, let me know and ill go see if it has what u need.

You replaced your white door with the OG one or painted the white one? What about the engine compartment? Bus is looking good. Even though I'm not a fan of light blue. Did you ever find that missing piece of chrome for the left rear? That BBB looks like fun from the pics I've seen on other posts.

CombatBus Thu Jan 21, 2010 11:41 am

no i had the original doors.... all of them. the prior owner had found a guy in town and bought the what standard doors from him. she put them on because "the glass was broken" ........im really lady WTH?!sp i finally got around to swapping the glass into this door and reinstalling it. i reinstalled the engine lid a long time ago and had the whole bus buffed by a fellow VW guy here in vegas. he has a really nice industrial buffer and made it shine like new.i found the missing chrome trim at the junkyard and installed it too. i didnt really like the color either but it has really grown on me she's like a little blue flower next to a stream in the mountains in spring.

so anyone looking for any white standard bus doors i have all of them slider, fronts, deck lid and engine lid.

i am also looking for door seals if anyone has any laying around for sale.

peace out ~CombatBus
