Stuff an olds 455 and a toranado trans in that mofo. Put 35's under it and 12 inches of lift. I imagined a hill climing breadloaf but now I'm a little dissapointed. Shame shame shame [-X

lol. i was going to buy a beat up bus but this one isnt. so im not going to modify it much. mainly a bit of lift, tire, engine and trans. im going to do a nice but light interior. i do have a bit of dent pulling ahead of me thou.

sell the delux trim to help pay for your off road mods. thats what I would do. when off roading a vw, stock parts can help raise good money, esp for the jerks w/ 181s

You will be surprised how far into the bush you can go in a stock VW bus. Up logging roads etc.

The big problem is hitting tree branches so take a Swede saw along.

nah, you just gotta be moving fast enough, they'll move

rebuilt the carb and she is running great now just for a valve and timing adjustment. dropped my old timing light on the ground thou and it wont even bring up the display anymore so more cash on tools less on the bus :(

hey combat "great minds run in the same gutter" my girlfriend just got me a bus for a christmas gift. way cool! this will be my third one, had a 66 then a 71 westfalia. but we built a baja and are having so much fun that I really wanted to build a baja bus. probably a class 11 style bus is more aproppos. dont want to cut the body away. here is a pic the night we got it home.

I've been doing some research on ways to lift it fo tire clearance. seems there are several options to choose from. leaning toward building a spacer/mount to move entire front end downward to match rear lift. we are going to be in vegas for a week in early dec. to catch a show and go out to Dumont for a couple of days with the baja. be cool to meet you and see your project, PM me.

well me and my bus had a long talk today. gave her a valve adjustment to get rid of her hick ups and she was pleased. she told me her ignition wasnt just right and found PO hadent set her points up properly, so i gave her pace maker a good moving around but she said they still arent quite right so i shall go get her a new set tmro and do the major dust removal and initial clean out at the car wash. during our long talk into the wee hours of the morning she told me her name but said i could only know the first part, said everyone called her "Ruthie" and she'd tell me her full name later on.

photos to be uploaded soon.

Why the harsh words?

well i fixed almost every electrical issue i had with the combative bus. it all works minus the front door marker lights(cracked) connector, reverse lights (no lenses) and lighter (cut and missing wire).

baby dells are in the mail and tires too. also got a cheaper header and muffler coming.

i have been looking into this odd rear seat i have. it seems to be factory style z bed deal where you pull out lower seat and fold back flat however i was under the impression this model never came campered. it also has what seem to be some type of factory-ish looking flat aluminum bar stock curtain rod at top with guide strings at bottom.

i have been thinking of what to do about my front seat as well. the PO had those hideous WAY over stuffed seats done and they are not comfortable. who has the best seat recover kits?

chazz79 Tue Nov 24, 2009 5:34 am

It sounds like you have a real z products bed kit. The westy style beds are westy beds, and the bracket kid that converts a stock bench is an actual z-bed.

Those are reflectors on the front doors, not lights.
