Does anyone run something other than the standard usage carbs? Something like a Holley 500cfm, quad mikunis? older 2bbl chevy carbs?

If I had more time & inclination, i was curious what a quad mikuni set up would do? I had good results on snowmobiles, but they are 2 stroke. The Holley 500cfm's are very common as most stock cars (racers) run them. I don't know if there is a mount made for them. i know quad set ups are a bear to balance, but it just feels like the common dual carbs are so expensive. I have various part of the above mentioned ones around the barn. something to do in the winter. It would be easy just to match the Weber I have with a second and get the dual intakes....

I think you are looking for one of these:

do a search for johnny4ply (or variations of) to get a ll the reviews, most have problems with icing, the manifold really needs heat.

Thanks, something like that. I have a Webber progressive on there now. I'm not sure if its worth the effort though. I'm in Seattle and I don't drive it in freezing weather anyhow. I don't know if dual progressives is possible without a manifold anyway.

Dual progessives have been done but the manifolds are a little difficult to find.

check this thread out for info about dual progressives:

The reason everyone(me included) is so keen on Webers and Delortos is the infinite tune ability. If you run a small holley you may not get all the tuning options available to make it run right on a small four cylinder.

A Holly 350 is a good carb. They are cheap and easy to get parts for. Smooth power and you can jet it up to a 500.

I know a guy with an aluminum casting shop. If I can make a wood model, I can get it cast.

You never said what size engine. Stay away from dual progressives, that is just a massive unsolvable headache. Duals are great if they are the right ones for your engine. Dual Webers 40's for 1915 or 1835. At least a 2 liter for 44s. Just be sure they are Italian or Spanish Webers if you buy some.

I can't remember if its a 1776 or 1843....
