that is awesome, i wish mine was ready to wheel

I race class 11. A class 11 will stomp a baja most of the time because it's a racecar and you drive it like one. But then again, we don't have to drive home in it either. I've seen many bajas that could benefit from class 11 tricks. Especially those with ball joint front ends.

What tricks do you mean? im very new to this whole thing. i figured a baja would be better at trail riding if anything, due to increased clearance. you have any pics of you class 11 wheeling?

bakertool13 Mon Oct 26, 2009 5:18 pm

how much power are you guys putting out on your 1600 DPs to race?

dirtkeeper Mon Oct 26, 2009 6:50 pm

keep in mind there are baja bugs, full fender baja bugs ala class 11 look and then there are "race" vehicles that can look like either of those or something different altogether and are a completely different breed

race guys wont give any true engine specs or how they are built. most have someone who builds them for them and they aint saying either. i dont race and i have a stock 1600 dp in my baja. lately i have using my buggy to get my wife unstuck from the driveway. she has a 92 f350 four door. every thing i do in my buggy is low to medium speed and top in is not a big deal to me. here is an example of my baja.

so a stock 1600DP wont cut it will it?

bakertool13 Tue Oct 27, 2009 5:56 am

anybody else have class 11 wheeling pics?

depends what you want to do

I had a 1600DP with dual carbs for years and had lots of fun and went all kinds of places

catchin a little air

bakertool13 Tue Oct 27, 2009 8:14 am

do you prefer the dual carb set up? I had heard to go single carb for offroading. i have a solex pict30 on my 1600DP. I don't know if thats a good carb for it though.

bakertool13 Tue Oct 27, 2009 3:36 pm

is the solex pict 30 a good carb for a 1600DP?

ottvw Wed Oct 28, 2009 4:40 am

A 1600 dp will work fine it's all about gearing.
I perfer full fender bajas aka class 11 look alikes because baja's are like asshole's everyone's got one.

bakertool13 Wed Oct 28, 2009 1:30 pm

is the beetle transaxle geared right for it?

thats why you make the baja look the way YOU want, not like just a beetle like what everyone else has

I have a baja with a stock 1600DP and stock trans, but I can always change the stock stuff later. I won't win any races with it, but it goes where ever I want it to. 65-70 mph on the freeway and does ok in the dirt. It won't do steep hill climbs or deep sand. You can get 30" tires under a baja without any issues too. If you're not building a race car, then go with what you like. How much are you willing to spend is the question.

well i want a class 11 style that i can wheel with my buddies, they have a CJ-7, a grand wagoneer, and a 01 TJ wrangler. I don't want to be towed along either. Is that asking to much?

this should help you decide these are from Oktr6r and his is pretty much stock in these videos, he has/is doing a few upgrades (002 trans, steering brake, etc...) but as you'll see, a bug will do just fine

you said it right there. build it up and if you tear a fender or apron off then Baja it.

bakertool13 Thu Oct 29, 2009 1:14 pm
