View original topic: fuel pump dripping from 3rd hose?

My mechanical fuel pump - type 4 mounted under starter in front right of engine has an extra small hose about 6 inches long. The smaller hose isn't connected to anything and is half the diameter of the fuel lines.

This morning I noticed it's dripping gas. About one drip every 5 minutes. I don't think it's done that before based on the spots under the camper. I ran the engine for a few minutes yesterday, but didn't drive it.

Is this normal due to temperature changes or is it a sign the pump needs rebuilding?

Thanks.

Terry

Not sure what this hose is called, but I have always assumed it is a kinda of breather / high-pressure relief line?!?

If you look on the lower engine tin just behind the fuel pump, you'll see a small hole, and this hose will be just long enough to fit into it. Not sure if this is per spec, but it's how mine came to me and still is.

I'll let the samba gods respond with a technically correct answer . . .

It's a vent/drain tube... It's to show you when your fuel pump has ruptured it's innards and is about to fail. :(
