Hi, I've just converted a 79 bay from auto to manual and have only one snag. There is no rod on the body to connect the front shift rod bushing to. Is this an installable part, or has anyone created a fix for this? Any photos of the area (from a standard) would be appreciated.
Thanks, Andrew |

| I'm confused, are you saying you didn't install a shift rod? or are you referring to the bracket that holds the front support bushing? It's a hole on a 79 with a plastic ring in it, 68-72 uses a pin but that's welded onto the bus at the factory. |

Hi, I'm installing a 1973 shift rod into a 1979 (ex)-auto. The guide-pin photo is in Bentley "Transmission and Rear Axle" page 11 Fig. 3-16. Thanks for your response..

Maybe this will help you. Right near the top - pictures of the front shift rod grommet that Busdaddy refers to:

| Hi, looks like the 79 shift rod (front piece) is different from the 73. Can I connect a 79 shift rod (front piece) to a 73 rear piece (already installed)? |

There is no metal plate on my 79 with a shift rod sized hole as shown in the above -mentioned Ratwell image, just a large square hole behind stickshift and open space in front. This maybe something I must fabricate. If so I sure hope I can get the placement right..

| Hi, got the beast running w/std installed. I had to make a temp shift rod guide out of wood but works fine. |
