chains in the sand work great when the sand is covered in snow and you go slow, are you driving a snow plow? no- then get paddles or baldies and have fun, with a stock or nearly stock trans and less than megga motor you don't want to hookup to well in the sand it will bust everything!

PS we do have deserts here and I have seen snow on the sand!

i used to run a stock baja in the dunes i had 31 x 12.5 street tires in the back, ran them at about 10-15 lbs. pressure. I was able to go a lot of places, no big dunes or anything like that, but i got around pretty good, til i was doing 35mph went through a water hole, turned me sideways, popped a tire bead, then landed on my roof. rolled it back over, put on spare and drove away.
