That's almost 120 km/h or75 miles/h.
With a mildy tuned 1641 cc engine with standard carb and exhaust.
I did 128km/h or 79miles/h a few times. But it gets really noisy..
This winter i going to but duel carbs on! I'am also thinking of mouting a sporty exhaust.. Any ideas? |

people must jus be scared of the noise the engine is making....
ACVWs are loud little engines people there are no liquid filled water jackets to dampen the noise for us.
as long as it doesnt feel like the engine is struggling why not ?
a few weekends ago when i was cruising to galveston for the lone star rally i brouht it up to 90 a few times the way there and back
i love going up and down I45 such a quiet highway once you get past ennis.
or past spring. everything in between is GRAVY
BTW i was fully loaded with 3 people and the camping gear for all of us aswell.
one of us which didnt sleep in the bus so we had his tent rig too...

I know I'm a chicken compared to most of you guys but I held 70-75 mph for a 160 mile stretch on I-95 yesterday from Wilson, NC till traffic stacked up in Fredericksburg, VA. The bus got 19mpg or so at that speed and oil temp help at about 195F on a sunny 50 degree day. I was feeling pretty good about "big fat momma." 8)
VDubTech - you were right, I wasn't doing my 2.0L justice. I was able to hold my own, pass old folks and trucks and get home in a decent amount of time. Usually it's a 9 hour trip for us, but we did it in 7hr 30 mins. I guess it took me a while to push it a little (4years!)...I've worked so hard on this bus of mine I didn't want to abuse it... :D |

| I have only been driving mine for a couple days and I got it to 55mph yesterday. I don't really know how the accel should be at that speed. How does everyone else's feel at that point? I know I had to floor it to get it to 55. I am sure it would do it slowly at less... |

The 71 westy I got last spring. I just did a good tune-up and oil change carb rebiuld did me 75 on the flat last summer coming home from fishing not bad for a 500 doller bus.

| I like to drive mine at 67 to 70 - about 3700 rpms I have hit 80 with it, but I was day dreaming and going down a long hill. I drive to Colorado on I70 and still pass the semi's.. But at 55 I get over 25mph and at 70+ I get about 16 |

| I hit about 88 and my friends in the back started yelling for me to pull over because the bus was filling up with smoke... Yeah, that was fun. Wasn't the busses fault, it was old and tired and in need of a rebuild when I did it. But I was 17 and....well, I was 17. |

Many years ago I drove mine from Anchorage AK (my house) to Tucson AZ (to my uncle's house) and back the only problem I had was a broken throttle cable but I had a spare. R&Red it and kepted going. |

| Whoops, you said stock engine. In that case the question is how fast can you get to 112? |

Stock 2.0L with EFI removed cause it was falling apart and replaced it with a set of solex's off 1800. Managed to get just over 100mph(about 160-65km'hr on a downhill run on the freeway getting a nice draughting tow from a semi trailer and quickly pulling out and keeping it pinned. Engine was never really the same after that lol.
So i rebuilt it and added a few nice additions and it did just over 120mph which does upset some in late model cars..... |
