looking for a good desert tire for my rail. i curently have 6.75 STU smoothies that i am replacing with 6.80 extreme smoothies, i really don't like running smoothies in ocotillo and i really dont want to run the new ones so...

My frient has a set of 205/75/15 general a/t's on his manx and i like them

What size and brand are you running on your Manx's/ baja's etc?

I have a pair of 6.75 razors for the sand but did some hardpack last month and bought a set of 6.70 5 rib implements for about 70 a tire.Havent taken them off yet either for the last 2 trips to glamis. They seem to work fine there too.I was hoping to buy anew set of front rims but no budget :(

The stu's do work better though in the sand

One and only size :( side wall width = 6.5 tread width = 5.2 overall diameter = 27.0

31X10.5 BFG AT's in the rear and some Yokahama's that I can't remember the type in the front. They're like 31X7's.......

I'm running 6.70 implement tires up front. They are the 7 rib Denman brand. I got them from Fullerton Sand Sports. I am running them on 3.5" Centerlines. I wanted to go taller, but 7.60 was the next size up for implements and they didn't think they were as good for that size rim, PLUS they were out of stock and I needed tires! They have other brands, but I guess these were a little taller than the others. They weren't too expensive.

I had a set of BFG A/T 235/75R15 on 5 or 6 inch wide steel wheels and hated them. I have the 1.5:1 Wright Rack and no weight up front. The steering wheel was hard to hold onto. The implements are much nicer. I run them in the Salton Sea area (Ocotillo). The rest of our group all run implements on their rails too.

Interesting, are the implement tires as heavy duty as a A/T? i know there can be some sharp rocks in Ocotillo...

Farm tires are made for rough enviroments. Have you ever seen what a farm tractor is put through? We have a '70's something Ford 1600 with the original front 3 rib tires still on it.

I have Yokohama Y742S on the front. Dont know if they are any good, havent driven it yet!

go with a mickey thompson mini mag or one size up micke thompson baja pro 30x7.

These are bias ply tires vs. all the a/t's are steel belted, of course theyre gonna suck.

Those mini mags are bad ass tires i remember when i had my baja they were called commandos at the time.

If i were to run desert full time in my buggy i would have those on from what i have heard they do work well in sand.I only choose to use razors up front in sand is due to weight. As to why i use the implements for the little desert i do is cost and weight too.

I ran 700-r15 in the dirt and bald ass streets in the sand. Got the streets from a tires shop trash bin.

The A/T tires on the steel rims were ridiculously heavy compared to the implements on centerlines. I don't think anyone has popped a implement in our group. Only time were get flats with them usually involves a bent rim... They are designed for a rough environment with a ton of weight on them. Only rated to 25mph too! but they seem to stay together when going just a little faster than that
