where do you put a turning brake in a bug? no room nowhere.

i've seen it between the seats on top of the e-brake? i'm not sure. that's why i'm asking

I'm in the process of putting in a single lever turning brake at this time. I'm putting it between the dash and the shifter sticking out at a 45° angle and putting it sideways. SO when you push it to the left it locks up the left and visa versa. and then right before that i'm putting a brake lock and ripping out the e-brake assembly stuff. I need the room for a new shifter box and shifter rod to go above the tunnel when i'm ready.

first run the ten degree trans mount and you can run the shifter and rod in the stock location. put the turning brake where the e-brake used to be. and do not use a push button park lock. they lock up and you have to open up the brake lines to get them off. find a 1/8" npt ball valve and you can get adapters that go to stock vw bubble flare lines, or whatever you need. CNC offers a ball valve thats actually made by swage lock that can be had for about 50 bucks, but if you can find something cheaper go for it.

that should help the original poster as well as shmoe2k

not sure what brand ..... my original was a bugpack and this is a no name copy that looks just like my original did.

Its tight between the seats cause i have extra wide seat but i use it mostly when i am stuck and i can get to it fine. These things come with terrible tolerances so i put plastic washers at the handle hinge pin and i welded nubs on the back of the lever piece so that everything fits tight and doesn't rattle.. The unit comes with an upright handle but i unscrewed that and welded my handle on horizontal.

first time i did it it was mounted on a 3" block (higher)

so should i just call bugpack and tell them what i am looking for? also how do they work? do they have their own line or does it use the exsisting one?

i've looked into the 10° trans mount for a bus trans the people that build baja bugs and buggies for a living don't have good things to say about them. From what they tell me the best way is to mount the shifter on the tunnel for a car that is going to be abused. They say the 10° mount works fine for a pavement pounder. The only time i have a need for an e-brake is when the car is running so thats why i'm going with the brake lock. I have one on my rail and i have had no problems with it. I never set it when parked over night or for long periods of time.

you have to run new brake lines its not a big deal very easy to do. The best brake lines i have bought are the black coated lines from NAPA you can bend them by hand with no bender and they work great.
