View original topic: I need a bumper...

I need some bumper ideas for my rail...king pin front beam, aluminum.

Here in MO we are required to run a bumper and believe it or not I got it inspected with a piece of 2x4 zip tied to the front beam.

I pulled in the guys says, "nice bumper." I said, "Thanks. Sorry but I didn't have time to stain it."

Can you guys post up some pics to give me some ideas?

Thanks, Toby

Here's a pic of what I'm working with.

Are you wanting to fab one yourself? Or buy one?

What exactly does MO mean by bumper? Does it need to extend in front of the wheels?

Fab one. I don't believe I could buy one without making it fit.

Just wanting to see different ideas, i.e. single tube, double tube, etc.

Find the type I like then figure out how it mounts and/or how to make it fit my application.

Honestly, I have no idea. All I did was call my local mom/pop service station and ask what items I needed...more specifically...what he would be looking for.

Only thing I didn't have was bumpers...front and back. So I zip tied 2x4's on, front and back. Regarding the rear bumper...he said the rear cage doesn't cut it. That said...none of the buggies around these parts run a rear bumper though all of them have some sort of tubular front bumper. Given the effort not to stand out I'll be satisfied when I get a front bumper on.

Thats pretty slick Hillaholic. I'd like to do something like that, but my front of the firewall isn't tubed yet, all stock. I didn't want to bolt something that large to the beam only. just time...

Back to the thread, are you looking for legal minimum, something you can push with or all out rock deflector? They sell these little tubes that mount to the beam bolts. That is all i have now for legal, but I woldn't trust it even to run over a possum with.

Legal minumum...what ever that actually is. My rail is 99% street driven so it doesn't need to be much. Pretty sure I don't need what Hillaholic built... :D

Yes...similar/variations to these....actually kind of like the first one posted. Could even consider buying this one then modifying.

rock sliding skid plate?
built in tow bar?
light mounts?
tow hooks / tie down points?
brush gaurds for the lights?

you're gonna roll your own, roll a spliff, not no pinnie.

built in tow bar - no
light mounts - welded tabs
tow hooks / tie down points - no
brush gaurds for the lights - no need

Street Rail...only needs to be "legal"...and look good. 8)

You can just go buy bumpers and then mount them?

I know of the single and double tube bumpers for sure and I am sure there are more out there.

It’s certainly an option…though I’ve measured the width between the front beam clamps on several of my friend’s rail buggies and not one of them have been the same. All this assuming the bumper is mounting to the beam clamps of course.

That said…I’d rather build something I like before buying something to modify.
